Why do I keep doing this to myself? (hint: because I love a challenge)

I’m sure you’re right as much as you are wrong. Heck, I’m still trying to get to that kind of ratio, lol. Yes, she’s not a long term keeper and I have confirmed she’s solid enough to last someone a few more seasons. Shoot, I moved the whole boat off the ground messing with the tilt so I know the transom will hold ( on top of drilling for a new skimmer, lol).

ok, I know this update is tiny, but at least it’s progress! I got the hood in primer, woot. Standard process...used citrus trip to take the old paint off, sanded with 120 then 220, rubber it down with acetone, taped off the rubber seal and voila! I’m still waffling on color. Can’t find the original close so I’ll have to order it if that’s the route I go. Still need to do a little faring on a nick or two then shoot a 2nd coat of the primer so I have time. But she’s not getting totally ignore, lol.

oh and I started removing every piece of wood trim and I’m replacing it with PVC. So I’ll post pics when that goes in.

For some reason, I can’t get my pics to load of my “20’ Outboard Paint”, so I’ll try again later. I think they’re too big but that project is done. 20’ away it looks good and that’s ok by me. I will warn everyone to be careful by the Duplicolor clear from the auto parts store. I did and the stuff was obviously old and started spitting which means I actually need to sand the top down and reshoot it. I used Chrysler Duplicolor Blue and it was a close enough match.

I may have a line on another Sea Drive that the owner says works. Probably will pick it up because the parts would be a lot more individually. Also, I’ve decided to tighten up all the voids the factory left without foam. I bought this little thing at WalMart for $20 to help me see places I can’t get to; you’d be surprised what you find (or don’t find) when you look under places.

Forgot to add that I picked up some 4lb 2part Foam on Evilbay. Seems like there's quite a disagreement between 2lb or 6lb,
so, logical me thought; "why not split the difference". There's huge voids under the deck between the seats and my 250lb
doesn't need any movement so why not.

Resized to fit. Don’t look too close, but it beats the original.

Once I figure out this Sea Drive situation, I will more than likely paint it as well. If I get my hands on the one I mentioned, then I can just paint the bracket away from the boat and I’ll finish the mid section and be done. With that part anyway.

I need to figure out the whole pic thing. I used to use photobucket but I understand they’re not the same anymore and just want to charge.

Course in the case of my OB paint job, little makes it look good, lol

Temps dropped down to 89 degrees and the humidity wasn’t above 60% I think. For us, that means Autumn is here and I can do stuff to the boat, woohoo!

Used the Rustoleum bottom paint. Still need to jack it up off the trailer but I got sick of seeing that ugly red, sheesh.

Finally figured out the wiring on the TT and at least got it freed up. You might not be able to tell but the OB is down a lot. Enough so that I could get my riding mower into the back yard finally, lol. Any progress is good, so while it might not be a lot, it’s something

What paint did you use on the outboard hood? Duplicolor, spray cans? Did you use epoxy spray primer to get ti sto stick?
Is there a close match to Johnson outboard white? The boat is looking good.

Yes, I used duplicator. Not sure about the white, however. I ended up using Rustoleum Automotive Primer on the hood. I just shot the duplicolor straight onto the leg. The middle of the hood, the lighter color, is a Rustoleum “Metallic” in blue. I liked the contrast.

Haha, Duplicolor not duplicator. It’s a Chrysler color btw, I took the hood and just got close.
Good news today for me! I have secured the working Sea Drive unit and pick it up today. I’ll have to go buy a new cherry picker/engine hoist but it’s never a bad thing when it’s New Tool Day. Boat owner that does his own wrenching oughta own one anyway. I’ll post pics when I get it home, but has anyone ever painted one of those and if so, does the “etching primer” work best?

Bracket securely resting in my boat item, loaded garage. As you can see, it works! I used my riding mower battery, lol. Now to pick up the cherry picker and order a lifting ring and this will be a major concern checked off the list! $200. Figured having spare parts is worth it!

Picked up a bimini from Amazon. Open box special for $54.
Also got a new fuel pump installed replacing the VRO. I think I may be having a primer solenoid issue now but it did start for a second. 2steps forward and 3 steps back.

Update; definitely a bad primer. Had her running by flipping the lever manually. Sounded good though; no knocks etc. Didn’t let it run on the muffs very long just wanted to confirm that issue.

And yes, checked the ohms on it and it’s bad so no rebuild kit for me sadly. Aftermarket $80 for this little thing. Oh well.

If you have raw aluminum you will need etching primer in order for your paint to stick. you don't need it if you are going over paint that is on aluminium. both paint and raw metal typically need sanding before applying primer. of course follow the directions, lol.

That's kinda what I figured was using an etching primer, even though these things are some type of "alloy", surely it won't be enough stray from aluminum that it won't hold paint. We'll know soon enough, lol.
