I have a 12' whaler clone with a 9.8 4 stroke tohatsu with manual trim and I was wondering if a transom saver will work? Most descriptions say for use with power tilt or trim.

you don't need one for a motor that small

I agree you probably dont need one with an engine that small. I do use one on my 40hp Merc, it does not have power trim...

Yes it will. I use one for my 25hp on my 14 Jon boat. I need it mainly for ground clearance.

I think it would be better to put one on and always wonder what would've happened if you hadn't. I have one on my 12' Livingston w/ old 15 HP Evinrude.

I used a homemade transom saver with my non-power tilt/trim 25HP 'Rude. It gave me the ground clearance that I needed.

yes you can use it, they have a bungee type strap that goes around the lower unit, to hold it in place. they have save many lower units from curbs, and driveways, when backing.

Also make sure it attaches to the trailer. Do not buy the one that just hugs the roller on the trailer. They make one that has a bracket that you attach to the trailer and then the saver is attached with a pin. The other end as stated before will have a "v" and a bungee that goes around the motor.
