I hear Dhadley and others talikng about raising the motor to get the most out of your motor, but my question is,would this be harder on a transom. It seems like that there would a smaller area on the transom supporting the weight/stress of the motor.

No it puts just as much stress on the transom wheather its trimmed up or down, it still covers the same amount of mount area so no more stress. It will put more stress on the transom when trailering if you don't use a transom saver.

mrtool2u

I understand what you are saying about raising the motor and not just the tilt and trim. If your transom is solid, no harm will be done by going up a bit. They are not talking about raising the motor 5" or anything extreme. Maybe an inch or two. Some use stainless steel plates inside the hull where the motor bolts on, to help reinforce the transom and distribute the weight, if they feel it's needed. Transoms are tougher than you think....
