Can someone give me a run down on how to use a Winky Blinky?

My local dealer is going to lend me one this weekend so I can maybe Finaly figure out what the @#$%^&* is wrong with my motor?

see if the dealer will make a copy of the codes...all you do is plug it in to the engine harness and count the number of times it flashes and the sequence they flash in

Winky Blinky came back code 1 , no problems......back to the drawing board..........

Well This has been going on since August.

AT low rpm under 1800 it runs very rough whole boat shakes. In 5mph no wake zones it will be running rough then for maybe 10sec clear up then back to rough very intermittent. Throttling up from idle it will miss bad then kick in around 1800-2k rpm .She starts fine , runs great at cruising speed.

What has been done:

1) Had injectors sent out cleaned and flow tested.
2) replaced 02 sensor $$$$$$$
3) Cleaned VST tank filter
4) Cleaned Fuel pressure regulator filter
5) Replaced water/fuel ex filter
6) replaced all spark plugs
7) replaced all spark plug wire caps
8) Did compress test (fine)
9) Checked all connectors
10) did the winky test (passed all no codes)
11) Checked all low fuel pressure diagrams

Should have flashing 12.
Sounds like you have a coil kicking out or arc'ing to the block.

I have no codes coming up just one blink? I have to check all the coils. I think there is a ohm test?

You will get a lot more help if you will just tell us the make and model of your engine, Magno. Are you talking about a Yamaha or Suzuki engine? What year?

this is not the smoothest running engine at low speed to start with.
you will need a Kv tester to check the secondary firing voltage.below about 600 RPM it fires all 6,between about 800 and 1200 it drops #5,between about 1200 and 1800 it drops 2 and 5.
Code 1 is normal, I dont think there is a code 12. you should have seen a code 33 then it changes to code 1.

do this before all else- separate the motor from the boat by using a portable fuel tank and fresh fuel then you'll know if it's a fuel or electrical or boat issue

Hmmm, where did I get 12 from, they say memory is the second thing to go.

Ok Well Today went out today ran for about 15mins in a 5 mph zone not one miss very smooth. drove around for a bit came back in shake rattle and roll once again. I got back to the dock tied up put her in gear around 800 rpm and pulled the plug wires off one at a time cylinders 3 & 5 have no spark and make no diff when I pulled of the wires....

I may have been wrong on the cylinder numbers, but at 800 RPM 2 of them are shut off.
maybe in the next two days I will get my manuals out of the storage building.
I could have swore it was 2 and 5 but my memory is old.
I will check, hopefully before I leave for Venezuela on friday. got 11 sportjet 175's with twins to deal with in the jungle .

Thanks, I have a shop Manual.( not the oem Yamaha) is it in there some where?

beats me, its not in the factory manual either.
but it is in my training manual and field notes.
one day I will get a chance to retrieve them.
