I would say no... seems it would be better at the
beginning of the season so you have ample time to
blow the sludge out of her.
BTW, 50 in Rochester today... :)

rodster

That's exactly what I do. Decarb it the night before, add Stabil to the tank and then take it to the lake for the last run of the season. Blow it out good, take it home and fog it. Replace plugs in the spring after all the fogging oil is blown out.

Re: WINTERIZING-NEED HELP

All of the professionals will like this one. I do not winterize anything. A couple of reasons. First, I owned a 25 wellcraft nova w/2-302 fords. I followed the instructions and fogged. Have you ever tried to get down in the bilge and work between two V-8's, it's not pretty. Second, I have found, that if anything sits very long, it's not good. So, what I have been doing for the last 30 years is not winterizing anything. I use fuel stabilizer in my big boat, I top off the tank after stripper season and put in the correct amount. For my small outboards, lawnmowers, weedeaters, and especially my Generator, I keep only a gallon of gas/oil mix for the weedeater and outboard, and a gallon for the Generator and my Yamaha 4stroke. Every two weeks (or as close to that as possible), I will take time to start and run everything I have (even my old vette). I run them until they are at operating temp and thermostats open. I move every part on them, up and down, back and forth. Nothing ever sits idle for months at a time. I have never had a problem since I started doing this. When I go to start anyone of them, I am pretty confident they will run. It helps the batterys as well. Try it.

Re: WINTERIZING-NEED HELP

naclh2o

Good idea to run everything often, as sitting idle for long periods of time is any engines worst enemy. Great if you can do it, but for others(including myself), it's impossible to run my outboard when it's 16* outside right now. So I do take the precautions before I put it up for winter, just to be safe and hopefully, prolong the motors life. I never used to do anything to my 89' Johnson 28HP for years and it still runs as strong as the day I got it. And it sat all winter(4 months here). No stabil, no fogging, no pulling battery, no nothing. Covered the boat up and that was it! I do now use stabil and fog the motor as part of winterizing, just because I've learned from this forum that it seems to be the best thing to do when they sit idle for that long. And it just makes sense to me now. I wish I could run mine every couple of weeks or so, then I too would not bother to winterize either, because I believe as you do, that running them is the best thing you can do! I sure wouldn't let my truck or car sit without starting it for months. But, I can do that anytime, cold or warm :) !
