I didn't know where to post this, and note to moderators, please move if in wrong place. Anyhow, I recently purchased a little 17' CC to fish with and I am adding a depth sounder. The rigging tube does not have a rope, or any wiring thru it, just throttle cable, shifter and steering. The PVC tube in the rear of the boat and in the console just dumps into the hull. Any great ideas how I can run the wiring to the center console? I tried for a while with fish tapes etc. with no luck. I suppose I could remove a throttle or shift cable and use that but thought I would ask for suggestions. Thanks.

Just went through that mess myself. I ended up using a 3/8" wide snake (smallest) with the end removed. Taper tape small poly rope to the end and then take your time. When through, taper tape wire to rope (don't forget another pull line for the future), and pull back through. The whole time, I had to jiggle the steering and control cables. Try from both ends (console and stern). If after many attempts, you do not succeed, I would look for any wire not in the main harness, cut it and use as a pull line. Of course once again, you need to attach a pull line to bring it back to re-attach. No joke, this could take MANY attempts.

You may have a setup where the pvc dosn't run the whole length of the boat. That would explain not being able to get a fish tape through. You might be running into foam. Myself I'd get a small plastic ball, attach it to some fine diameter fishing line and suck it from one end to the other with a shop vac. Once you have a lead in there you can pull stronger stuff to pull your cable.

The PVC does not extend all the way thru the hull, I can tell from the fish tape the opening just enters the bilge.

Well, in that case I would use one of the control cables to pull a double line through, then use one of the lines to return the control cable, like your last thought.

I was just about ready to pull the throttle cable off and use that when I had an idea. I had a pretty stiff steel fish tape I threaded into blige and used a large very strong Neo magnet I had laying around. I tied a piece of 50lb test fishign line to the magnet and threw it repeatedly thru a access hole I drilled under the center console. (I am going to put a 6" deck plate there today). I got super lucky and stuck it to the steel fish. My next door neighbor heard my throwing the magnet up inside the hull and walked over. I had to endure several "fishing" jokes , but was all worth it when I felt it drag the fish tape to my new access port.
