I have a ERude 40HP model # TJ40elenm
The more it gets worked on the worse it gets.
At first cranked great, ran great at times other times would not idle...was not a constant problem, but a problem.
I had first mech clean both carbs..he finds top carb float in upside down..
when it came back ..slower cranking & idled way high..on first lake run the motor went to half power.
he went back in 3 times on carbs with same results on lake.
I went to new mech. he rebuilt both carbs...he did a lake test..soon as I take on the lake it goes to 1/2 power...
during this time it would crank right of idle great & run up to 2000 rpms then 1 cyl would go out & fuel would dump from top carb...to shorten the story a bit
Carbs have been into 14 times now
I began to track down it may be the power pack which is located on this motor under the flywheel...I had a new electrical kit put in ...there is still a problem with a miss & one cyl. going out.
As of now it cranks runs in idle great..soon as throttle is given it will spit sputter a bit then kick in...next it will run to right at 2000 rpms then go to missing again...kick in & run great to 4000 rpms any higher than 4000 & it goes to 1/2 power again......
My last mech does not do the lower end of outboards...but he has advised me of some leak down & he felt there was a problem in the piston area,
A seal may be leaking ...build up on the piston etc.....
Any ideas from you guys for me to look into in that area of the motor?
Im female but married to a man that has been a mech both automotive & diesel, but he has never dealt with 2-stroke outboards..I cant afford at this point to pay the high cost of sending this motor in & not finding the problem...Im very good at fixing things myself & more than determined to get this done..just point me to the info & I will tear it down myself ...
