The normal paint loss from the sand would surely be on the skeg as well. I'm going to say that isn't bottom related. The skeg itself doesn't have so much as a chip out of it. I wouldn't be detered but of course that assumes the price is fits you.

Here's a 10 year old boat with nothing leaking--

the 405 hour engine room--

and outdrive, with some paint missing from the skeg...

Like I said, normally I wouldn't mind some paint missing--- but our boat is proof if you shop around, you can find one that was treated like royalty by the original owner like ours was--- and I'm trying to keep up their good work! :)

I concur. My Mercruiser powered boat is 29 years old this year and you could eat off the bilge under the engine. There is not one leak inside, nor on the outdrive.

BTW, the puddle in the pic looks more like water to me.

Looks just like my outdrive on my Four Winns. Wouldn't scare me in the least. Being the kind of guy I am, I'd try to knock a few bucks off the price as it'd bug me enough that I'd want to paint the outdrive.

My prop looks about the same too. And I'm somewhere around 100 hours of use. Yes its light usage but I fish so I go a few minutes, pop down the anchor, and proceed to drown some worms. So really, low hours on a boat my age doesn't deter me either

That is a pure Volvo Penta SX stern drive. No worries.

the wear on the paint (unless repainted) shows the boat has proberly never been beached as the paint on the tip of the skeg is still there. The paint wear looks like its been in shallow water and the prop has blown sand past the lower . Its possible that this happened at or near the dock/ramp where the water is shallow. I dont think its a deal breaker.
