Re: WWIII

Hmmmm, what is that saying? "You can't believe everything you read". For those that can't read, maybe the saying should be "You can't believe every picture that you see in print".

Maybe from now on pamplets that are dropped should be in a cartoon format. They would be able to understand it better.

Re: WWIII

Nice Troll tx. BTW if I recall correctly, I heard on the national news that the original cartoon was published almost 2 years ago. It was pulled form the past to incite the hate mongers. Seems it worked.

Re: WWIII

I will jump to Txs defense.

This has nothing whatever to do with a cartoon. This has everything to do with the flawed notion of attempting to bring democracy to the Muslim world by force. It won't work, and this is simply the latest evidence of that fact.

We needed to go after Afghanistan. We need to get Bin Laden and his cohorts. Still do.
We need to do whatever is necessary to keep Iran from aquiring nukes.

We need to somehow get the moderate Muslim community to denounce the radical element, and you won't do that by military force.

There is of course no easy answer to this mess. But it had nothing to do with a cartoon.
But what we *are* doing ain't working, and we need to try a different tack

Kinda like yor "defense" of txs. What you said has nothing to do with his post or the posts that followed.

To paraphrase QC, you've left earth's orbit.

Re: WWIII

PW2,
I do not disagree with the bulk of your post. But I do not see how a cartoon originally published 2 plus years ago, (and the rioting going on TODAY because of said cartoon) have any relationship to forcing democracy on Muslim nations.

Re: WWIII

pw2
I still cant correlate the cartoon riots to our attempts at westernizing an area that does not and has never wanted it.
and Iran has the right,by treaty with the US, to pursure peacful nuclear technology.
thats where GW&CO are making a big mistake.
the power plants should be US designed and constructed and use US technicians and scientists to aid in the construction and operation not russian or chinese. face it Iran is gonna build it as they have the cash and the technology.
so we may as well aid in power plant construction so the US reaps the benifit of any technology or constrution techniques and we will have"eyes" in the plant to keep our intelligence community upto date.
othewise our heads are in the sand and we fart loudly.
but by treaty with the US they have the right to PEACFUL nuclear technology.
if GW&CO dont like the treaty they need to change it by legal channels.
but the riots I place squarely on the far right radical islamic religous leaders that could have and should have stopped it in its tracks.
but it does get them media exposure and aids them in building power in their communities.
for any leader to call for a cartoon contest for the sole purpose of further inflaming another race or religion is not only childish its completly reprehinsable.
while freedom of the press and speech is good it does not cover intentional incitement to violence.

Re: WWIII

Ok, JB, I'll take your word on that! Kind of like religion, you have to rely on faith, as all the evidence contradicts it.

It does not help to have Condi Rice publically blame Syria and Iran for inciting this violence. !HELLO! Of course they are using this to their benefit by inciting their citizens with anti-Western rhetoric. What would you expect them to do??? How do you think Hitler came to power so easily? And this is what ties those cartoons with everything else going on over there. It is not a large leap to equate a European cartoon with the Invasion of Iraq and the fundamental religious war, and how better to incite your citizens with Anti-Western propaganda?

I do give Bush some credit in having king of Jordan come out and denounce this violence. There *ARE* some reasonable voices in this part of the world, and we need, through diplomatic channels, to get them on the side of reason, one at a time, if necessary. We need to promote reasonable leaders in that part of the world like in Jordan.

Democracy is not the best way to do that.

Now heycods, you KNOW we don't keep score here. It's kind of like my 5 year old nephews soccer team. We don't keep score so no one has to be the “Not the winner.” ;) :) :p

Democracy is the best form of government we have to date. For the people to have the power to rule themselves is the best way for inequalities to end. What else will end riots like this but a governement by these people so they have nothing to riot over. Until someone invents a beter form of government I am all for democracy. The people of Iraq in general do not fight against democracy it is the power hungry and those in other countries who feel there power base threatened by a deocratic Iraq. Look out if democracy takes hold in that part of the world there will be a lot of dictators and kings out of a job.
