This one has be baffled. 150TXRA (6G4) X 509484
Runs good first of the day. Jumps out of the hole and goes to 5400 rpms. Cruise around at about 3000 RPM for about 30 min and decide to hammer it. Goes to 5200 rpms and then starts to "bog". I have done this three different days. When its starts "bogging" it will slowly go to 3200 rpm from a stand still. It will not jump out of the hole. If you hammer it it will not get above 2500 rpms. After its starts this bogging it will never go above 3200 rpm the rest of the day.
Replace the fuel pump diaphrams, still the same. Replaced the fuel pumps with new, still the same. Replace filter/separator filter a couple of times. Bypassed the filter separator. Still the same. Remove the carbs and cleaned twice. Still the same. Compression is within 10 percent. Vacuum check the fuel pumps..within spec. Spark check the system and good blue spark at the shop, I have not sparked checked on the water, yet. Ign advance linkage is hooked up and working all the way to the stops. On the water I have drained the carbs from the main jet plug and fuel pours out of all carbs. Filter on the port side of the engine is full of fuel and clean. Replace oring in filter. Replaced all fuel lines from fuel tank to engine. Replaced primer bulb, twice. It never stops running and starts right up. Fuel tank drained and refilled. No anti syphon valve is installed on this fuel system. I know Im missing something? Im busy this time of year so any thoughts???? This afternoon iv cleaned all engine grounds that I can find and found a few dirty. I have not put back in the water yet. Any thoughts???

Re: Yamaha 150 TXRA

Sounds similar to the prob I have (just posted) I'm leaning to the coil/pulser/trigger assembly.

When you are underway (during the problem time) try pulling spark plug wires to see how it effects your rpms. My guess is that u will find that you have lost spark on a couple cylinders. Swap those ignition coils with ones that you verified are sparking. If the same cylinders are dead it's not the ignition coils. Maybe the trigger assembly.

Hope it helps

Re: Yamaha 150 TXRA

instead of parts chunking lets use a plan.
test the alarm system.
this can be done by pulling the stop lanyard and cranking the engine.
you should get an audible.
then test the ign system at the problem RPM.
can be done several ways with or without a test wheel.
use a secondary Kv tester while its struggling. if all 6 plug wires show 5-8 Kv go fix the fuel system.
or make a 6 wire jumper harness, while the engine is struggling check ign coil primary voltage with a peak reading meter or a DVM with a DVA adapter, should have 130V minimum. if it passes go fix the fuel system,if it does not simply check the inputs and outputs of the CDI assy.
lose a pulser coil and you lose spark on 4 cylinders, lose the crank position sensor and you dump 2 and 5.
to make the 6 wire jumper either scavange an old 6 pin harness or make one.
solder a paperclip to one end of each wire and insert it into the bullet connector for each ign coil primary.
that will allow you to test voltage from the helm. either run a 7th wire for the meter ground or tap a ground wire under the helm.

Just to touch base.... Iv never seen an outboard "bog" soo much before with one coil bad. Coil was getting hot and going open circuit. Replaced and she runs like new. Live and learn.

Re: Yamaha 150 TXRA

thats why proper testing with proper equipment is crucial.
with my octopus(6 lead jumper) and my DVA meters, that would have taken less than 30 miniutes to find.
its also why they pay me so well.
but tell us, was it a primary open or a secondary?
