Let me first thank everyone on these forums that have posed about their HPDI issues. I was having the typical surging issues that many others have experienced. I took it to a local marina and they replaced the pump in the VST tank, the filter attached to the pump, and the canister filter above the VST tank. Needless to say it still had a terrible surging problem around 2000rpm. I later found that they had swapped the vent and pressure regulator line on top of the VST tank. Unfortunately that did not fix the issue. I hooked it up to a computer and ran the diagnostic tool. Turns out the computer is bad on the engine. The computer said the engine had 6353.5 hours on it. I put a borrowed computer on the engine and it ran like a champ.

Now for the $1,000,000 question. Does anyone have a computer they can sell or can you direct me to a place that may have one?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: Yamaha 200HP HPDI

Thank you cousinabe. I have emailed him, hopefully he has the computer. My engine is a 2001.

I dont believe the pump was bad. I spoke to a factory trained Yamaha tech who told me if the pump runs its still good. I hooked it up to a battery and it runs very strong. Cost me a total of $1500.....

This shop should give you a credit towards the computer for replacing parts that you didn't need. You should not settle for taking a beating. If they are an authorized Yamaha shop then maybe start making some calls to Yamaha and see where that gets you. Also, where is your "old" fuel pump. If it's still good then you can keep it as a spare or sell it.

Also, I have twin 2001 150 HPDI's and one of mine shows over 6000 hours and the other shows 580. Sounds like I'm not the only one. I bought the Yamaha software and plug a few years ago and hooked it up to my laptop. It is worth its weight in gold. I paid a few hundred $$ for it, but well worth it.
