I have a couple of questions about my motor, yamaha 60 hp four stroke, 2002 model.

The speedometer is no longer functioning. It happened on a day when there was a lot of debris on the water so I assume it is clogged. From reading other posts I gather that there is a small hole on the front of the lower unit that you need to clear with a drill bit. However, the others described a circular hole I think, and the one I am looking at looks more like a horizontal slot about 1/2" long. Is this the hole I need to clear or am I looking in the wrong spot?

Also, this is my first boat so I am trying learn. What rpm is it safe to run at? The boat (17 ft carolina skiff) came with a 14 pitch prop, which did fine for two people, but with three it was a crapshoot of whether or not you could get on plane. I changed that out to a 12 pitch, which helps the hole shot, but now if you lay the throttle over it will go past 6000 rpm which I know is not good for it.

One last question, when on plane and trimming down, sometimes it makes a sqeaking noise. Is that from the hyrdaulics struggling against the pressure put on the motor, or does that pivot need to be greased?

Thanks a bunch y'all!!
