Re: Yamaha users manuals on line ???

Hi,

Yamaha F15 Owner's Manual for 1998 is the oldest and smallest Yamaha 4-stroke manual available online at Yamaha US website:
Link

Maybe You can use it as a starting point, but best is probably to buy an Owner's and Service Manual for Your 1993 9,9 hp 4-stroke. You can buy them online at Yamaha website, see link above. For example the long shaft:

F9.9MLHR Owner LIT-18626-01-67 $30.00 In stock: Yes
F9.9MLHR Service LIT-18616-00-92 $60.00 In stock: Yes

I just need to service this engine and sell it, really don't want to invest in a manual. Guess all I need to know is what oil to use in the crankcase and what is the capacity, thanks.

Re: Yamaha users manuals on line ???

Hi,

A normal service of a 4-stroke is not that complicated:

New gear case oil (any outboard gear case oil should work) and new gasket on fill/drain hole.
I can not image you need more than 250 ml since that is the oil capacity of F15.
Just check in F15 Owners manual how to drain and fill gear case oil (chapter 4-22).
New engine oil (just buy Yamaha 4-stroke oil and it will work just fine) and oil filter.
Depending on how many hours it has been running You need to adjust the valves, and after some hundred hours or X years the drive belt must be changed (probably change after 1000 hours or 5 years what comes first).
New spark plugs and gap adjustment.
Clean or new fuel filter.
Crease with water resistant grease all points that need grease, includning prop shaft (and new cotter pin when mounting back the prop).
Grease throttle linkage.
Check anodes so they have contact with metal in engine.

Have a look in the Yamaha F15 online Owner's Manual chapter 4-9 (page 68) what You need to do. That Maintenance chart is kind of generic for many Yamaha 4-strokes (it looks basically the same in my Yamaha F115 4-stroke Owner's manual).

Why not buy a new Owners Manual for the F9.9 - it will be valuable to next owner. $30.
It will be a plus when You will sell it.

Well, I have some work to do, Got this thing running but it will not idle and stay running and she is pumping no water. I don't know the history of it nor how long its been sitting around.

Any common issue on no water out of pea hole or should I just tear it down?

Re: Yamaha users manuals on line ???

I am in the same boat (no pun intended). Today, I am replacing impeller and thermostat on 2000 100 4 stroke. It sounds like your problem is the impeller (water pump). It is pretty straight but you must have a Seloc repair manual, if you have never done it before. an important tip is to have the boat in gear when you remove the lower unit, so the shaft doestn move on you. When you put it back on then the gear shat will go right back in. I would also replace the thermostat to be safe, it is quick.

What breckbordr suggest is wise to change.
Impeller (water pump rubber wheel) is usuallly to be changed every 3 year or so. Changed impeller on my Yamaha F115 4-stroke some weeks ago after 3 season.

The carburators may need cleaning if the outboard sat for long time with fuel in them. Try carb cleaner. There is carburator kits to buy.
Buy a Seloc or Clymer manual that cover the Yamaha 9.9 hp 4-stroke and year 1993 so You can see how impeller, thermostat is changed and how to perform carburator maintenance. Check here at iboats for these manuals.
