Lately I have been afraid to fall asleep. Maybe a better way to put it is that I just can't feel content about my life, and fall asleep with a smile on my face.
Like I just have so many issues, constantly crowding my brain, that I'm afraid to go to sleep and let them run wild.

Have you ever had a fight with your woman, and it just naggs at your gut to much, that you can't sleep till its resolved? There are certain things that bother me so much, that I just can't relax enough to sleep. OR maybe i don't want to relax and go to sleep.

I have been up since 10 AM sunday morning.

Re: You ever NOT wanted to fall asleep, due to your issues?

I used to work in an IT shop. There were certain very important programs I needed to run each night. Depending on what nite it was depended on what program I ran. I used to lay awake every nite wondering if I did everything I was supposed to do. After a while, I finally said nuts to it. I just assumed I did everything I was supposed to and cleared my head when I went to bed and worried about nothing. I slept like a baby after that point...........

Stop worrying, think about nothing but a good nights sleep. Deal with any unresolved issues the next day........ I know it's easy for me to say, but sometimes you need to just make up your mind and do it.......

Here's to a good nites sleep! :faint::sleeping:

Get out the pen and paper, write everything down.

Put it in order from highest priority to lowest.

Give everyone a a number from 1-10 based on aggravation/BS scale (10 highest 1 lowest)

Review and make a plan.

I bet some can be crossed off the list because they are not worth your time or effort, and the others you will know.

Just keep your cool, do not go off the deep end.

Might help, "Over the years", I've figured out, any problems that have got me stumped are best laid to rest at bedtime (compartmentalizem). Then the solutions come to me in my dreams. Good luck and sweet dreams.

Go see a psychiatrist, You have more troubling problems than you realizes that you have.

Oh, I am already seeing one, and a counciler.

Yea, sat night, the last night I slept, I had this really nice dream. I dreamed that this girls friend was telling we what I was doing wrong in the relationship. I woke up and realized that I was smothering her, and needed to back off, and play it cool.
It was like an "OH Sh*T!" moment when I woke up.

Depression and anxiety are treatable. The reason I mention it is you are probably suffering from one or both and may not realize it. A simple medication can usually do wonders. I would go see your doctor. Alot of men, including myself are stubborn when it comes to admitting faults or problems.. Get the help you need to be able to get your sleep and feel better, as sleep is the best thing for you.

Also, if you don't work out, consider it. It will help, I promise. ;)

I slept like a baby last night. It's a wonder what 36 hours of staying up will do. I have taken a few anti depressants before, but I felt NOThing. Not a thing, like it was a sugar pill. And I took wellbutrin for few months
The other one was Zoloft

When anxiety goes to bed with me I ask my self, "What is the worst that can happen?". Then, "How would I deal with that? and "How much would it matter?"

That often turns mountains into molehills.

I just got freed from a lung cancer threat (bad chest Xray back in Nov.). I had already planned my last few months on earth right down to the last detail and become comfortable with my plan. No anxiety. Turned out to be scarring from emphysema.

We cannot avoid the storms in life, but we can set the sails.

Re: You ever NOT wanted to fall asleep, due to your issues?

When my business was failing I had issues getting to sleep, what got me to fall asleep is I would turn on a show called "The Universe". I enjoy it, though the narrator has a very monotone voice. It works wonders and is much better than a sleep aid.

Keep in mind you are not going to be able to solve anything while you are sleeping and by not going to sleep will make things worst. I know it is easier said than done. Though find something to get your mind off of it, watching a show or reading a book.

TBH the mind is a very impressive thing, TBH is right about what he said as that will help you solve the overall problem and not just the symptoms as I suggested. People try to solve things the same way more often than not. Though not every way works, find a way that works and if it doesn't try something else.

My fiance has an anxiety disorder. Me on the hand is can be vary laid back, sometimes to laid back. Over the years she has been a lot more relaxed and I have been more mindful.

Re: You ever NOT wanted to fall asleep, due to your issues?

Glad to hear you slept right. You will not always be able to go to bed resolved 100% but there are things you can do to get to 98% resolved and that 2% is so small you just fall asleep easier.

Your issues may be deep but simple steps can help like completing a project that you have knowingly been procrastinating on. Complete a goal for yourself so you can prove you can and will continue to accomplish things. Do something nice for someone else and work on things that you know are bugging you personally, knowing that not all will be resolved in a days time.

If you constantly walk around worrying and not doing anything the pebble becomes a self-prescribed boulder and it's tough to move it.

Plan something out of the ordinary that is fun to you that you have wanted to do a long time. Good luck sleeping and heck, you might want to even flip the mattress and buy some new pillows.

Not everyone will understand. There's a great new country song out "I know what it's like to have nobody understand...I know what its like to kiss a west coast girl underneath the northern lights." Only you need to understand yourself.

My deep thoughts for the day heh.

Re: You ever NOT wanted to fall asleep, due to your issues?

Well, there is still the old saying that the things I worry about don't happen. That suggests that worrying about them prevents them from happening.

That is an old saying and it is wrong. Plan for bad stuff and it is a lot easier to deal with if it does happen.

I know it's hard to due but what works for me is when an issue has ended (argument, stressfull situation) I turn it off completely and deal with it from another angle when it arrises or seen again. More times than not it works. Good luck rest is key to a healthy life!

Bowman-
Lots of good advice has been offered. Every person is different and their solutions may- or may not- help you.
PLEASE don't self- medicate. Doing so could make it worse.
Talk to your regular doctor about it. He's trained to help you figure out what's going on.
If you don't make progress in a few weeks, ask him to try something else or go to another MD.

IMO you're too young to have sleep problems- that's for us old guys!
I've had serious sleep issues for 2+ years and just recently have started getting it under control, but I haven't done it by myself.
Get some professional help!

I have the same issues when I have numerous problems at work. I find that laying in bed never works and I would think writing things down with a plan on how you plan to attack the problem(not with an actual solution) might help.

Re: You ever NOT wanted to fall asleep, due to your issues?

Oh, I am already seeing one, and a counciler.

Did either of the shrinks, ever mention transcendental meditation? If they didn't, they should have. One suggested it to me many years ago and I'm glad he did.

I have anxiety always and depression often. I can usually fall asleep in 30 seconds, but wake and be wide awake two hours later, worrying about this, that, or if the oil needs changed, on the garden tractor. Other times I can't fall asleep because there is too many distractions around. I an very easily distracted and very disorganized, that only make things worse.

TM (and it's not complicated in it's simplistic form) uses a mantra, to blank all external thought, which has a great calming effect. You are in control.

A mantra is just a word ( make it up and remember it) that has to be 100% meaningless, that you force yourself to repeat (in your head) over and over and over. 5-10 minutes works for me. Mediate whenever you need or want to.

Works great for me, keeping me away from the pills, which I now refuse to indulge.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Re: You ever NOT wanted to fall asleep, due to your issues?

I guess I have kinda been doing Transcendal meditaiton, I just never relaized it. I will always just say gibberish in my head, or mumble it when no one is around. Just something I do to calm myself, or maybe more to keep my mind occupied when doing a boring task.

I figured I was just weird or crazy.
