While you are at it you might want to pick up some of this:
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Goof-Off-128-oz-Rust-and-Stain-Remover-GSX00101/100127368

It'll clean that waterline off the boat in a jiffy.

awesome, il grab some of that.

i was going through my emails and discovered instead of ordering an upper and lower seal kit, i ordered 2 upper kits  so i just ordered the lower kit, it should be here friday i hope.
tomorrow im gonna get a tube of 2-4-c and do the impeller, also the spanner wrench arrives tomorrow so i will pull the driveshaft out and attempt to get the gimbal bearing off of it. gonna attempt to spend fri and sat evenings resealing everything and putting it back on the boat sunday, then i have all of next week to change out a coolant hose, do a tuneup and fluid change and give it a test run on muffs next fri evening and then drop it in the water next sat

sorry i abandoned this thread, ive been very busy lol

yesterday i believed i had finished all my repairs, a quick run down of the repairs i did in the 1st 3 weeks:
bellows
gimbal bearing
outdrive impeller
outdrive reseal
new shift cable
new fresh water pump impeller
new tensioner pulley
new exhaust flappers
new tach + coolant temp gauge
built a new gauge cluster from sheet metal since the original one broke
new exhaust riser gaskets
distributor cap + rotor
carb rebuild
4 oil changes since when i first got it there was 7.5 quarts of milkshake in the engine

my wife made a new engine cover pad

i believe the boat was sunk before i bought it, when i sucked the oil out i got 7.5 quarts of thick milkshake. havent found any cause yet, my only assumption is it got swamped pretty bad before i bought it and thats how the water got it. ive done 4 oil changes and the oil is essentially perfect at this point.

after i rebuilt the carb it started running perfect, it idles smoothly at 650rpms, there are no weird noises aside from the automatic enrichment valve. its a closed cooling system with a sea water pump that pushes water through the exhaust. the coolant temp gets to 175 and stays there perfectly. it seems to run perfect now that ive gone through it.

the shifting is a little stiff, im assuming i just need to adjust the linkage a little, but it does engage forward and reverse fine

so tonight i went to drop it in the water and do a shake down run... i was able to get the stern floating but couldnt get it off the trailer, so i ran it for 30 minutes like that to make sure no water was coming in and everything was good... everything seemed great

the reason i couldnt get it off the trailer is here

my total money spent so far including the boat is about $4200

You won't know if water is coming in until you drive it hard for awhile. if there is a crack, it may not open until the engine really heats up.

might could ask a mod to combine some the thread, or just update one probably the post purchase and as you did on the shakedown just reference the other thread.
