Troubleshooting 69 55hp johnson that won't shift into reverse or neutral, I'm not sure where the power is supposed to come from for this Electric shift, I get no power on blue or green wires.

Split the control box.-----Perhaps the big $$$ switch is broken.----You are aware that motor has to turn to develop oil pressure for shifting.----Electric shift is wonderful and reliable.

Yeah, I know it has to be running, do you mean the throttle/shift control ?

It needs to turn.----It will shift when turning the flywheel with a 1-5/16" socket.----Sorry----I have a bunch of these motor for parts.---But I have no idea what you know about these simple motors.

A broken switch.----The arm breaks off.----Or if you have the Evinrude control box it could be as simple as the red wire fallen off.----Sorry----I can not see , hear or feel your motor !

Checked the fuse.----might as well take the starter apart for inspection / testing.

I replaced the starter but not the solenoid, it starts fine, I seen on the diagram that power was routed from the solenoid through the vacuum switch then on to the control

Do you know the purpose of that vacuum switch.-----Studied the wiring diagram?

Say the motor was running in neutral at 2000 RPM and you turned the key to off.-----The gearcase would slam into FORWARD gear.------That switch applies 12 volts to neutral solenoid from alternator.----Would go into forward after motor slowed to a safe RPM.

So this could be my problem, any way to test the vacuum switch ?

Sorry----I doubt that is the problem.-----Stop guessing on this simple system.----Check / test switch in the control box.

I will, just trying to cover all possibilities so I don't keep bothering people, I really do appreciate your help, I have never dealt with Electric shift before.

You have to be patient.----Perhaps find a manual.----Few shops will help you with these things.----And labor charges will shock you.----Your location?

Power to the shift switch comes by two routes

1. Battery cable side of solenoid to the vacuum switch, to shift switch. Must be cranking or running to make vacuum. No vacuum, no shift. Test by holding your finger on the diaphragm.

2.Battery cable side of solenoid to a fuse, to ignition switch, to blocking diode, to shift switch. Key must be on. Diode must not be installed backward, or "blown".

Vacuum switch.----If motor is in neutral the vacuum switch keep voltage going to the solenoid until motor stops making 12 volts.----It will shift with no vacuum if key is turned on.
