I’m sure you’re disappointed, but honestly all of us that have already rebuilt boats knew what was lurking under the deck. Any wood at this point was bound to be mulch. It’s clear if you are going to keep this boat it will be a complete gut job. It is curious that there was no foam. A lot of...
“Water to the oil pan”, so safe to assume I/O. I would be more apt to think you have a leak at the u-joint or cable bellows. I may also suspect the outdrive transom bolts. If it’s leaking through the small screws in the transducer, then the whole transom is soaked and has been for quite some...
Glad you replied my friend! Good to see you still here. Sorry for not being on for a while. I’ve been more active on a Ford 6.0 forum than here. I need to get back on IBoats more often. See ya around.
Just looking at it unfortunately is not good enough. The structure of our older boats is mainly plywood encapsulated with fiberglass. The plywood provided the structure as the fiberglass is pretty thin. Drill a test hole low on the transom from the inside into the plywood but not all the way...
No I have a Chaparral. I meant basically I was in your shoes with repairing a keel. The glass needs to be sealed up to prevent any water intrusion and breaking down of the fibers. Believe it or not, fiberglass without gelcoat, water will eventually draw into the fibers and begin to weaken the...
If you get paid by the hour…..win, win.
Also- would Flex Seal spray be better than tape? I mean I watched a guy build a boat out of screen doors, it seemed pretty durable. (Asking for a friend).
You have to be careful when pouring foam in a cavity like that as it could push that floor up and cause a bigger issue. You would be better off filling the crack with thickened reinforced resin, grinding down to good clean fiberglass, then doing a couple layups of CSM tying the repair into the...
Ever since the proper rebuild it honestly has never missed a beat. That whole dilemma was a real learning experience for me. It goes to show that those carbs aren’t as finicky as people let on. You just have to understand how they work, and what the engine builder was going for. All QJs are not...
I agree. If it were mine, (which it was), fix the gel coat, then install the keelgard. The finish doesn’t need to be perfect since it being covered, but you’ll permanently seal that exposed glass.
I’m back!! 😜
No real update for the Chappy. Never did get around to starting the vinyl. Life just kind of got in the way and honestly just been enjoying the boat. We spent a lot of time on Lake Anna, the Potomac, and Raystown Lake this past year. No other improvements or updates in the works...
