    Overheating AQ125a leaking cooling sustem

Obviously you will need to order new rubber gaskets. I would stick in a putty knife and use a hammer to push the putty knife down and around the gasket surface area. It looks cast so too much force could snap a piece of.

Engine replaced. Will not shut off.

You need a wiring diagram and start to trace things out. I would disconnect all the wires from the alternator and tape them from shorting. Until you sort things out. But not good to be pulling cables with engine running if the alternator is connected. How many wires to the alternator? One...

2002 Volvo 5.0 GXI Low Operating Temperature

There are thermostats for raw water cooling and closed cooling. You need the right one for your type of cooling. Take the thermostat out and tie two feet of string to it. Heat up a pan of water with thermostat suspended in middle of the water. Use a thermometer to see when it opens. You...

Water in bilge while on muffs

Ok. That was it. I never pull the drain plug. But the marina pulls the drain plug when they pull the boat out of the water to put it on a rack. I was not aware.

    Volvo Penta 7.4 Gi

The basic block is the same but there are a lot of VP parts bolted onto the block. And of course the outdrive is all VP.

Trim pump not pumping after refilling fluid

I had a starter/alternator rebuild a trim pump for me.

    Volvo Penta 7.4 Gi

I think the VP engine and outdrive are of a higher quality than Mercruiser. Better built. But less shops that repair. The one thing you should push for if everything else looks good is to have the outdrive gear oil drained into a container you can examine. Look for water or metal in the...

Water in bilge while on muffs

I just got a Milwaukee inspection camera. I will be looking to check and follow the entire path from the outdrive to the raw water pump. Including #5. I have also been replacing the SS spiral clamps with SS constant torque clamps.

Water in bilge while on muffs

I agree it's not the best. But boat is inside a rack storage building if I am not on the boat. I just don't want to spend another summer working on my boat rather than using it.

Water in bilge while on muffs

I ordered a Milwaukee M12 inspection camera. I am just hoping I can get to anything needing to be replaced or tightened.

Water in bilge while on muffs

I wonder how critical it is? Is the boat sea worthy? My thinking is the garden hose & muffs are pushing water in under some pressure. Not a whole lot as the muffs let a lot of water leak until the engine is started. Once started on muffs or running in the water the path from the outdrive to...

Water in bilge while on muffs

So there are several parts in the raw water intake. Not a straight run from outdrive to raw water pump

Water in bilge while on muffs

While I have not really looked, it's a pipe thread transom plug that has not been removed in a year or two.

Water in bilge while on muffs

After replacing the starter today I attached the muffs and turned on the garden hose. I noticed clear water slowly filling the bilge. Not really filling, maybe a PT or QT in 5 min. This is with the engine off. There obviously is the hose from the outdrive to the raw water pump. The water...

    1998 4.3 GL Head Replacement

There is typically a bypass opening so even if the thermostat is closed some coolant flows by.

    Corrosion paint SX-A outdrive

Either do a quick job with spray cans or take your time and follow the directions in boatered.com. You need products specifically for aluminum. I would forget about the POR-15. Until I figured out the corrosion problem I would use spray cans.

    Corrosion paint SX-A outdrive

Is it at private dock or marina? Anyone else with a having issues? Typically corrosion is an issue in salt water, not so much in fresh. Do you use shore power in the boat when it's docked? VP sells an active corrosion system. But again it's geared for salt water usage. Get the right anodes...
