    1981 25hp Mercury. where does the two kill switch wires go on the switch box . One wire black , one wire yellow/black. Thanks

    It’s black . Ground wire? Not getting spark. Compression is 120 both cylinders. Changed flywheel(broken magnets old FW) . Changed switch assembly box ( old one looked really bad). Only thing left is stator and coils , don’t have any idea how to check either .

    1980 25hp Mercury 5842749 Replaced switch box ,new box has a wire approximately 6” long coming out from it , my question is where does it go, old box did not have one but it was in bad shape so originally it might of had one ?

    Ran a compression test ,got 120psi on both cylinders. FYI manual start if get it runnable plan on putting a starter on it. Now , what to check, getting no spark .

    I disconnected the kill switch wires from the tiller handle to the switch box assembly.

    25hp Mercury serial #5842747 (1980/81 I think) Don’t know where to start . Flywheel magnets are cracked , but I was told shouldn’t hurt , I do have another one on order. Right now there is no spark to plugs. Is there anything that I can do or should I wait on flywheel replacement?

    My son brought this motor over for me to look at , he told me it was a 1976 and I found a listing for a 25hp using the serial number , but you have got me thinking that he got the wrong year , will check into this in the morning .

    1966 9.5 Evinrude won’t start.

    Just a suggestion, squirt some oil in cylinders , turn motor over without spark plugs in , let set a while , now recheck compression. This motor is a low compression motor , I think 60 to 75 lbs .

    Got it thanks. Had a hard time loosing the bolt on shifting rod , was steel but got a nut driver to squeeze in .

    Need to change water pump , don’t have a manual, I know to take the 4 bolts out but what about linkage to change gears. Not my motor trying to help someone out. I do have a 57 35HP that I upkeep . Can someone help ? Thanks Motor is a 1969 9.5 Johnson (that is a well neglected motor) ? Got it...
