    New guy, floor repair questions

Shoot, I spent nearly that much in resin, foam and glass alone!

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

List of updates: transom assembly is in, bellows installed. Bilge gelcoated and Y pipe in. Fuel tank finalized and installed. Hatch cut, hoses test fitted. Last piece of bad wood was removed from the hull yesterday. Bow eye hole plugged and new backer glassed in. I did 2 sheets of half inch ply...

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

My bow was saturated. The deck side was drier as I dug down. Stringers were the same way! I figure something comparable now is closer to 90k. I got a lot of deadrise so while sitting at anchor is a little worse, it punches well above it's weight while underway. Only thing that sucks is you need...

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

So I did a small experiment. I took one of the pieces of foam from the boat and soaked it in a bucket for a couple weeks. It "took in" about 20% of its weight in water. Now this foam has a lot of voids as it was a scrap from one of the vents but interesting none the less.

I don't even think there is much of a weight difference between the two just based off lugging both around. Bravo is a wee bit heavier though I'll concede...

    Ethanol free gas for Mercruiser

You use a water separating fuel filter. Unless you get contaminated fuel or water gets into your tank via a bad fill or vent.... it typically isn't an issue especially if you replace the filter regularly. I've never had any water in any of my tanks or any filter I've pulled. To put it another...

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

Got a lot done today. Still can't upload photos. Gelcoat the bilge, built out the fuel tank compartment, glassed in the floor supports and a couple other miscellaneous things.

    Ethanol free gas for Mercruiser

I've never had an ethanol related problem boat or car that wasn't caused by my own stupidity. Letting it sit for two or three years can do it to a carb. Otherwise I've never worried about it....

    saltwater 5.0 weak points

Crusader and volvo have manifolds and elbows. All you have to do is fit them to the y pipe (some fabrication) or go through hull. Otherwise it's the same swap stuff as anything else. Mounts, wiring, etc.

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

Well that's more or less what I am doing. Two sandwiched pieces of ply to make it a tad over an inch thick on both of the two long sides notched for cross supports spaced on 10 inches and then the front and back of the hatch are resting on the 1.5 inch thick bulkheads. The rest of the structure...

    saltwater 5.0 weak points

My machinist told me their cost for a stock rebuild on a 350, nothing special, has almost tripled. I know for a fact I used to be able to get a full rotating assembly and gaskets for ~$600 for a stock .030 over 350 and maybe about the same for a 383 without searching for a deal... I took a quick...

10-4 I think, and not being able to attach pictures still is getting annoying, he means to do something like this but on the stringer.... This is the post of my original fuel tank set up from earlier in the thread, you'll need post #14 . My current plan is to more or less duplicate that because...

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

So I have to ask... is 1 layer of 1708 adequate for water resistance and strength in non structural components? I ask because I see mixed responses. I have a tab of 6 inches of 1708 on the bulk heads in the fuel tank area with a full up and over wrap to encapsulate it. All those really do is...

    Boat age vs financing.

I don't have much to add but from my limited experience with cobras, they aren't that bad. Now would I willingly seek out one? no. But if it was kept up on and is in good running order I wouldn't be that concerned if the price was right and I really liked the boat. Only thing I remember from the...

Why I'm nervous boating at night...

I typically run 25 or less at night. It's normally for pleasure so I'm never in a rush. My rule of thumb always was there is a large amount of people who have no business running a boat ever. And for whatever reason they especially like to be doing it at night. I find I enjoy it less and less...

    Commonality with Auto Works

I'm like 80% sure on the GMs you can do the TPMS relearn just by changing tire pressure. While I have the tool for my 2019 which also works on my 2010 as well, the owners manual on the 2010 tells you to inflate or deflate the tire a few psi to get it to ping while in learn mode. That seems to be...
