    Are you running different props? There is a chance one of the motors is turning higher RPMs or carb butterfly is not quite opening all the way on one of them. Could be reasons why they sound a bid different WOT.

    Yes something bis wrong with that gas. How has that has not made it out of the carb yet, have you dumped all the fuel and mixed fresh yet? If it's really bad it might not work but even old gas unless it's really OLD with fire and run. It should have the notable bad gas smell of really old. But...

    That plug from what I understand was manufactured for or by OMC of their motors. It's no longer made. You are correct on the construction...the superceded number is just J4J which is the auxillary gap plug. I don't think it's made anymore, an acceptable easily procured plug is j4c.

    Lower unit filled with grease

    That it's a "flowable grease" think it's also called 00 gease or something as a generic term instead of JD cordhead grease. If you have ever seen the stuff you know what I'm talking about....it's like grease you have diluted with diesel fuel so it's more liquid .

    Yea, that's the cap that wouldn't work for a brand new tank. Looked just like that, it's supposed to vent when the center is unscrewed. It didn't work allowed pressure to build up and tank to swell. He got it off Amazon, said lots of people had problems with the cap not venting after I told him...
