    2006 Volvo 5.7 osi-d crank no start

What method are you using to attempt to turn it over by hand? Does it turn noticeably slower using the starter motor? I use a socket and wrench on the alternator while applying extra pressure on the tensioner using a length of 2 x 1 lumber with two large nails placed in it so one is below and...

Serpentine Belt Tensioner Pulley alignment (5.7 gxi)

I have a 5.0 GXi-E if your alternator bracket is the same as mine I believe it is a design error by VP. I machined the bracket to correct the situation, no more belt failures or piles of belt dust. First thing is to find out just how far alignment is out. The front flange thickness of the...

    2006 Volvo 5.7 osi-d crank no start

Some engines have 6 wires going to the diagnostic10 pin plug and some have 10 wires going to the 10 pin plug, how many wires does yours have?

    2006 Volvo 5.7 osi-d crank no start

Without a scanner it's bit like fighting with one hand tied behind your back, but there could be some information you can get from the ECU. It would help if you could answer the following questions: 1. Does your installation have a "CEL" (check engine light) or "MFI" (multifunction indicator)...

    2006 Volvo 5.7 osi-d crank no start

MAP sensor terminal "C" should be 5V reference voltage supplied by the ECM connector J2 pin 2. This reference voltage is also supplied to the throttle position sensor. With battery switch off (or battery disconnected) un-plug ECM connector J2 (ECM side with only one securing screw). Check MAP...

Just to be sure, your plug leads are connected like this, right?

Ouch! No a spark at the plugs does not eliminate the cap. The design of these distributor caps make them prone to cross firing if the distributor is not perfectly positioned (as described in the first attachment ad posted). When not in perfect position the cap tower contacts corrode quickly.

    2006 Volvo 5.7 osi-d crank no start

It is possible that both of the caps you have tried are bad. Buy a brand new one to eliminate that possibility.

    2006 Volvo 5.7 osi-d crank no start

alldodge, although he doesn't have the VST he does have the float (see : ). But he has checked it and it's good. woodsy01, I agree with ad about getting it scanned. You also said you "tried" a second hand distributor cap, is the original back on the engine now? These caps are notorious for...

    2006 Volvo 5.7 osi-d crank no start

It is possible that the fuel cell float valve is leaking by and passing fuel to the inlet manifold. The float valve is supposed to allow vapors to pass to fill the cell with fuel and the float should shut the valve when the cell is full. An easy check is to disconnect the small diameter vapor...

Overheat on 5.0 with SX outdrive

It was the cam drive gear not the distributor gear. I merely mentioned it as it is a very simple check he can do to confirm the rotor it turning.

Overheat on 5.0 with SX outdrive

OP stated it was a Ford 302!

Overheat on 5.0 with SX outdrive

Back in the 90's I helped a friend change out the stripped phenolic gear in his Ford Bronco 302. So not all 302's had cast iron cam gears.

Overheat on 5.0 with SX outdrive

As you said that when the over heat happened the engine just shut itself down, I would remove the distributor cap and turn the engine over to check that the rotor is still turning. If your engine has the plastic cam drive gear it could have stripped teeth!

New Engine Replacement - Engine Died and Hydro locked after 5 hrs!?

Nada guides indicate the smallest engine option for this boat was a 3.0 L. The dry weight spec. probably included this engine. According to VP data the difference in weight of this engine to the 5.7 L is 282 lbs. If that helps at all!

Overheat on 5.0 with SX outdrive

If you ran with the flush cap off the pump just sucked air for as long as you were running. I bet that raw water impeller is toast! I would change it before trying to run it again.

Volvo Penta in Bayliner 1989 runs in start position but not in run position

The hull number should be on the outside of the transom near rub rail height on the starboard side (it is set in the mold for the hull). The buttons on the throttle controls are most likely the buttons to disengage the shift mechanism to allow you to advance the throttle without going into...

Volvo Penta in Bayliner 1989 runs in start position but not in run position

After a good look at your photos it seems that all the gauges have been changed out and a local made gauge panel installed. The port tach also appears to be broken. With the circuit ignition breakers missing and the non original gauges, you have to find out what wiring changes have been made...

Volvo Penta in Bayliner 1989 runs in start position but not in run position

You initially said you thought the boat was a 1989 which I think is most likely, the hull number should tell you (normally molded in the transom starboard side). All my responses are based on it being a 1989! You indicated you have already swapped the ignition key switches so you can access...

Volvo Penta in Bayliner 1989 runs in start position but not in run position

Bruce has a very good point! What model Bayliner is it? Going out on a limb I'd guess it's a 2955 Avanti. And If that's the case, it was probably originally fitted with twin 350 OMC Cobras (approximately same HP as the 4.3 GXi-E) Those engines did have the direct wire (purple/ black) from the...
