Volvo Penta in Bayliner 1989 runs in start position but not in run position

The Kill switch is normally part of the throttle/shift unit. A spring loaded switch has a clip inserted to complete the ignition circuit, the clip is attached to a lanyard, you clip the other end of the lanyard to yourself while at the helm and traveling at speed. If you should get thrown...

New Engine Replacement - Engine Died and Hydro locked after 5 hrs!?

As it seems to run OK at medium to high load but not at low load I would check you have good cooling water flow through the fuel pump cell. Disconnect the water return to the port exhaust riser, cap/plug the riser connection, and hold the hose at the same height as the riser connection and run...

What type of oil and lube to use

For what it's worth, I asked Mobil Products Technical Support what oil they would use in place of VP SAE 30 if it were their boat. Their response was 5W30 Mobil1 Truck & SUV Full Synthetic. So that's what I use.

Volvo Penta in Bayliner 1989 runs in start position but not in run position

Well that narrows things down a bit, as you have swapped the key switches and no change And both engines exhibit the same symptoms, the only thing common to both engines will be the kill switch! Did the helm controls get changed at the same time as the engines? I would suspect they are wired up...

I think you may be entering a B instead of 8, it should be all numbers.

4.3 GXI-F (2005) No spark or power at the coil. How do I check?

From the OP post from his manual it can be seen that the ECU is a 90 pin Volvo Penta not a MEFI or a 555. I know nothing about the 90 pin ECU so can't be of any help. Best guess would be the kill switch mentioned above.

Volvo Penta in Bayliner 1989 runs in start position but not in run position

I'm sorry I'm not aware of the part supply situation in Australia and I've never heard of MES in QLD. Maybe someone else on this forum can help.

Volvo Penta in Bayliner 1989 runs in start position but not in run position

It is quite possible if you were trying to start it like a car and turning the key through ignition on straight to start without pausing! These engines need the pause at ignition on to allow the fuel pumps to prime the fuel rail and to let the ECU to do its self test (two beeps). If you did...

Internal Coolant Flush and Winterizing VP 4.3 GXI-BF

Didn't the OP tell you enough in the title of the post? VP 4.3 GXI-BF Shouldn't that be a red engine around 2001?

Volvo Penta in Bayliner 1989 runs in start position but not in run position

The alarm circuit dose not get enabled until the engine starts i:e above 400 rpm, hence no alarm at key on engine off. The finned component is the MEFI 4 engine ECU. and could be the problem. However, it is an expensive item and if there is some other fault that damaged it you don't want to...

Volvo Penta in Bayliner 1989 runs in start position but not in run position

As it starts with the key held in the start position I don't believe swapping ignition coils will change anything. In you initial post you said the alarm sounds with the key on until the engine starts. That could be an issue, you should get two beeps (ECU self test) when the key is turned on...

    1986 Volvo Penta B230 AQ125A engine wiring

Does your manual agree with the diagrams alldoge posted? If so you may be getting the G and C mixed up. Which would mean the the brown wire "G" should go to the engine temperature sender. This may have a resistor in the line to make the gauge compatible to the sender. If your manual is...

Volvo Penta in Bayliner 1989 runs in start position but not in run position

Please check your on engine diagnostic link connector and see how many wires it has, 5,6 or10. Also the color of the wire at pin E (the letters are small and molded in the end of the connector). If the wire at pin E is not green/yellow then the $59 Rinda Codemate will not work. The other Rinda...

Volvo Penta in Bayliner 1989 runs in start position but not in run position

You really need the "VP EFI Diagnostics" manual. The wiring schematic for the 4.3 GXi-C/D is towards the back. I believe the only difference between this and yours is your diagnostic link connector (DLC) will have additional can bus wires in it and the green/yellow (check engine light) wire is...

Volvo Penta in Bayliner 1989 runs in start position but not in run position

There is no schematic available for the GXI-E that I know of. The nearest is the one for the 4.3 GXi-C/D. And they don't have diodes in the alternator that feed the fuel pumps. The relay for the furl pumps is hot all the time and the ECU controls it by providing a ground for the relay coil.

Volvo Penta in Bayliner 1989 runs in start position but not in run position

Sounds like the ECU is not receiving an acceptable oil pressure signal and shutting down the ground path to the fuel pumps. Are you sure you are getting oil pressure? Do you have an oil pressure gauge? If yes then test the oil pressure switch.

2005 VP 5.0Gxi 2500-3000rpm max. Low pressure Pump 0 psi

Before you change out the fuel cell, screw just the adaptor onto the LP Schrader valve and get someone to quickly turn the ignition on-off and see if it squirts fuel! As has been said, if squirts when you depress the valve you should get some sort of pressure.

2005 VP 5.0Gxi 2500-3000rpm max. Low pressure Pump 0 psi

Are you aware of the fuel cell paint peeling inside the cell of early MPI engines? Have you checked for this? If not I'd recommend you do. Paint or debris in the cell relief valve back to suction (controls LP discharge pressure) could produce zero LP pressure.
