    I also like getting supposed "parts motors" and messing with them...youd be suprised how many people think they have seized up or "parts motors" that are actually decent motors after a simple fix....such as some lube in the cylinders for a day or so and they start and have decent or good...

    With no vro and power tilt and trim, that makes them different then...gave consumers a less expensive option.

    Your absoluteley correct...i forgot the one i had the previous owner bought the kit and put it on.. Those spl motors were omc's way of competing with mercury when they bought chrysler and turned it into force, wich were mercury's 2nd tier motors they sold. The forces had alot of mercury parts...

    You said the flywheel got stuck and killed your battery? As in the motor wouldnt turn over??

    Ok....that helps. Take the cover off and look around for metal shavings around and under the flywheel and anywhere in the lower cover or the pan as some call it. Also see if you can turn the flywheel by hand and if you can does it feel smooth or feel like somethings rubbing or a grinding...

    Also i would yank that vro off the motor and toss it....mix your oil and fuel yourself. I had a 91 88spl and i mixed it myself...thise vro's had issues and all it takes is that thing to stop injecting oil for a min or so before you overheat and or seize up....js

    I see nothing as far as metal shavings in your pics, flywheel stiff??? As in its hard to turn it??? You said running fine for four hrs? So were you trolling for four hrs or going spot to spot for four hrs as in run to a spot and fish then restart and run to another spot?? Shavings coming from...

    1980 25hp johnson

    Well...i had not touched anything in the crankcase when this was happening. Completeley disassembled the powerhead,crank etc...and put the crankshaft,rods and pistons back in and when i turn the flywheel( its off im actually just turning the nut on the shaft but theres no clunk or hesitation now...

    That water yoy say is coming out may be a loose mount...hafta take off the lower to get in the exhaust housing to tighten the nut..

    White and milky??? Id almost bet you have water getting in your gearcase... Propshaft seal maybe...your skeg? Idk if yours has a split gearcase though..regardless white and milky is a problem

    Late 70's early 80's 25-35hp...carb difference or?

    Hmmmmm.....i checked and all the 25's and 35's from 76 to 84 have the same intakes...according to the part numbers. I guess im confused as to why the intakes would be different (size wise) but still have the same part #. ??

    Do the 35's get the extra 10hp from the carb having a bigger throat? Seems i saw the powerheads and manifolds are the same on both the 25's and 35's of this era, that being said it has to be the carb right??
