    Torque specs 1980 johnson 25hp

My bolts on my head have 1/2 inch hex heads with 5/16 dia threads wich call for 120-144 in-lbs, i just found my factory service manual and it says 18-20ft-lbs or 216-240 in-lbs. It lists the head bolts as 1/2 inch wich is the head not the threads yet gives 3/8 thread size values for torque when...

    Torque specs 1980 johnson 25hp

Screw size meaning the diameter of the threaded part? Then why do my 1/2 inch head bolt heads and my 7/16 inch bolt heads on my exhaust cover both have a 5/16 diameter screw size that call for 10-12 ft lbs of torque when i know for a fact my head bolts should be torqued at 18-20 ft lbs or...

    BIA Prop Rating Question

Id assume the bigger the motor the more hp is loss at the prop as apposed to the flywheel rating...id guess a 100hp fly rated would be like an 80-85hp at the prop but could ve way wrong...i just know bout the 20-35's

    BIA Prop Rating Question

Im pretty sure it was 1985 give or take a year when they started rating hp at the prop instead of at the flywheel.... Example...a 1981 25hp evinrude would be a 20hp motor had they rated the hp at the prop in 1981 instead of the flywheel.. Not sure of the difference in bigger hp motors but any...

    Torque specs 1980 johnson 25hp

Im confused...in the pic are they referring to the actual bolt size or the size of the bolt head, meaning the size of wrench needed to tighten or remove it.. Example..where it says 3/8 are they referring to the diameter of the threaded part or the size of wrench needed?

    Fuel mixture

2.6 oz per gallon..on my late 70's early 80's omc's i use an extra capfull or so to give a lil added lubrication but youll foul plugs a lil faster especially if you troll alot..but 3 dollar plugs are cheaper than a new motor imo

    Outboard Painting

Definiteley go with the zinc chromate on bare metal but remember you have to use a primer sealer over that or your paint will not stay on the motor very long before it starts to chip and flake off...been there and done that.

    Outboard replacement

Much better motor than the mercury but i will always go with omc, or evinrude johnson if you prefer that.

    Outboard Painting

Use a 2 in 1 enamel with hardener...and theres no way a paintbrush job will even come close to a sprayer/ spray can in terms of finish...imo only a fool would use a brush...js

What 15 carb fits my 9.9?

Im 99.9% sure it does not have to be a 1990 15hp carb..any 15hp carb will work as long as the intake hole where you mount the carb to is the same diameter as the throat on the back of the carb...

    Bogging issue

Remove and disassemble your carbs and soak them in acetone, carb cleaner etc...(wichever cleaner you prefer). Could have something floating around in one of your carbs and clogging one of the orfices occasionally causing it to bog. Like said above it could also be a issue with your tank but from...

    Exhaust cover gaskets 25-35 hp

Question? What changed in 1985 from the previous years(back to 76 i think but could be wrong) on the exhaust side on the 25 and 35's (besides no more 35hp motors after 1984) that would have you use two different exhaust cover gaskets compared to the two gaskets that were identical that were used...
