    1988 Rogue 2420

Scott . . . That is why we have winter in the northern areas. so, we can catch up on all of the maintenance and repairs :ROFLMAO:

Well, That's It. Another Season Over

I just put the winter cover on the boat today. Winterized it a few weeks ago. Planning for some outdrive maintenance in the spring . . . among some other things.

    Outboard life expectancy

My oldest outboard is 54 years old . . . it refuses to die. The newest one is 33 years old. I know your OB is bigger and probably will be used a lot more than my engines, but . . . Outboards tend to last quite a while 1,500 hours and 25+ years would not be unusual.

    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

IDK - One surprise to me as I looked into the issues on my car was that in order to save a nickel, the automakers have 'LIN BUS' (single wire) in addition to 'CAN BUS' (two wires) to operate and manage a lot of the gadgetry. LIN BUS is less reliable and probably leads to all of this quirkiness.

    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

I just did the brakes on the Admiral's car . . . as soon as I'm done the brakes on my car start spitting out warnings . . . pad wear sensor I believe. It says to drive moderately. OK . . . I think I did the front brakes on my car not too long ago . . . maybe the thing will tell me which wheel...

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

The DOT / CDL stuff is available online. The wording is a little tricky. I tend to agree that local police may not be as aware of the limits than the DOT folks, or how to calculate them. While towing, I have the wide load banners, so that alone may draw attention. (I get the single trip...

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

Reminds me of recent beer commercials where the bed of the truck at a tailgating party is turned into a giant cooler - ice & beer. Probably over the GVWR :ROFLMAO:

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

FWIW - I am finding a few Ford F-250 & F-350's with the gas engines & 4.30 rear end meaning the 15K tow rating. Some of them have the higher GVWR (11K & 14K), so those would not be the best choice and my GCWR would be over the 26,000 lb. non-CDL limit. I'm seeing a lot of the F-250's and a few...

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

@Leardriver No doubt that the new trucks have awesome towing capabilities as you attest to. The fact that since 2015 most/all towing vehicles are spec'ed according to the SAE J2807 guidelines would indicate a measure of truth to the numbers. I also think there is significance in when the...

Four Winns Horizon 210 Interior Panels / Port Console Parts

Welcome to iBoats. I'm not able to help, but if you have any pictures to share (of your boat or a similar boat) that may help with ideas from the group.

    99 Monterey 276 Transom Replacement

Is the transom wood wet? but not rotted? I can see it is dark in a few places, but you can probably kill it if the wood is still solid. Letting it all dry (really dry out) out before you glass back over will be important.

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

My un-scientific survey indicates that about 10% of the Dodge 2500 series have the 4.10 differential option (as per the Monroney label , i.e. 'Window Sticker'). I have yet to find a Ford 250 that has the 4.30 differential. So, my easier path may be the 2014 or newer Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi, 4x4...

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

FWIW - I am have found a few Ram 2500 trucks (2014 - 2018 model years) with the 6.4 Gasser and the 4.10 Differential. Per the original window sticker. Towing rating is 15K + lbs. So, when the time comes it might be an easier find in the Ram line-up.

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

Yes, the pricing seemed high to me . . . I thought it was about double the cost of the Formula 330.

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

Yes, insurance would be a concern. My Admiral does commercial insurance, so she can get the rates of any potential truck, so the $$$ is known in advance. BTW - She told me that my boat insurance is $2,300/yr o_O

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

Yes, the 4.3 differentials are almost non-existent. Thinking I could convert or swap out the rear-end, if I had to. I did find something similar in the Dodge Ram (6.4 Gasser w/ 4.1 differential option listed on the window sticker), but only 1 truck so far. Probably will matter when the time...

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

Thanks for the comments so far . . . I'm thinking to stay under the 26K figure. As I look at the towing spec's it seems that the published GCWR is reduced by the recommended max tongue weight. Essentially the tongue weight takes away from any residual carrying capacity of the truck. At...

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

. . of course, I'm not sure if the 26,001 lb. reg applies if you are hauling for your own personal use . . . Just thinking 'out loud' . . .

Mercruiser 5.7 EFI Water in Oil

Not having read the entirety of the thread, but my initial thoughts were the gasket between the exhaust manifold and the riser/elbow. I would do a cylinder leak test to rule out a head gasket and then do a maintenance iteration on the exhausts cleaning out the passages, prepping the mating...
