    Windlass questions

Are you going to install one D-I-Y style, or have it done by a shop/marina? You'll want about 15-20 feet of chain and a braided rode and probably a claw or delta plow style anchor . . . 22lb. should be fine.

    Lowering the bunks . . .

We get about 5 feet tide swing. Sometimes, more like 5.5 feet.

    Lowering the bunks . . .

Here is our ramp being constructed in October . . . there were about 5 more sections to be added at this point. They didn't change the grade much, but overall it should be a lot better.

    Lowering the bunks . . .

Hi @Lou C I have not done anything with the trailer brakes, but the plan would be to go with EoH, bleed the lines, etc. I think the tow vehicle could use a brake line bleeding as well, Lowering the bunks seemed to work out fine. It looks like it is now about as low on the cross members as...

Maxwell Smart, "Missed it by that much"

Glad you got it sorted AD. (y) I'm on my 3rd microwave . . . the first 2 were Maytag brand, now it is a GE. All went in fine, with some adjustments to the back mounting bracket. The real trick these days is getting a new refrigerator. It seems like most all of the models are about 6" higher...

Guys, some edits have been made to the recent posts. Let's keep the government and politics out of the discussion.

Every title is not in seller's name

That is a nice feature, to be able to look up a current owner's name. I wonder how many states have such a feature? For me, an out-of-state registration number has always been a red flag, but can certainly happen with same-state. Got any examples to share?

Buying an '03 Sea Ray Sundeck 220

Congratulations on the new-2-you boat. I assume that you will be doing the re-power. Since you are salt water I would get an engine that has or can be rigged with FULL Closed Cooling. I'd also make sure you are getting a new engine (or at least a new long block). . . and . . . Don't let...

    Which hull brands to avoid

Well, having owned a Mercedes, and now a BMW, I'm really looking forward to buying a Lincoln. :ROFLMAO: The truth is that economy boats are just that. Many (if not most) of the economy boat brands have raised the bar in the past 20 years to stay in business.

    Seller says exhaust bellows torn

Is '3 hours from home' the issue here? It would be worth your time to travel and see the boat if you have not already done so. We do not know if you can if you can 'run the boat a few times until you can fix it', since we cannot see the issue. The boat is 27 year old, it may be worth your...

My AGM Batteries Singing Their Swan Song . . .

Quick Update . . . Last weekend I was covering the boat for winter and went to charge the batteries before buttoning things up. FWIW - I have left the battery charger on in maintenance mode over the winter, but this winter I may let my solar charging system do the maintenance charging over the...

    Stingray 191 DC horn issue

Have you verified no power to the switch? Is there a circuit breaker for the horn? Trouble-shooting depends on what kind of horn your boat has (electric or electric/air actuated). In either case the horn mechanism may have either seizing up or shorted out causing the CB to trip. BTDT on my...

    Insurance for older boats

Typically, you can get a marine surveyor to do a replacement value (or similar) survey of your boat and the insurance company will take that as the agreed value.

    Which hull brands to avoid

Greetings @Laneman25 . . . I see from your posts over the past week that you have been shopping for used boats. There are lots of brands in the size range that you are looking for. Do you have a budget in mind? Age range? It is all about condition, and the buyer's checklist is a good...

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

FWIW - On our way to the summer house this weekend, there was a crash on the highway of what appeared to be a mid-sized SUV towing a massive RV trailer. The rig was spun around, facing the wrong way up against the guard rail in the median area. The trailer was on its side and pretty much fallen...

    Fogging thru carburetor

Fogging for 45 seconds is fine. Often the engine does not die. Taking AF in trough the muffs can be a bit questionable, if you did not drain the existing water from the block and manifolds.
