1998-2000 Custom Boat Fuel prime issue (5.7L Mercruiser Inboard/Stern Drive w/ Alpha One Mercruiser outboard Drive)

Would look on top of fuel tank pick up tube usually in the barbed fitting where it transitions to fuel hose there will be an anti siphon valve. Is a small spring loaded valve that can stick closed. In event of a fuel line rupture it prevents the gas tank siphoning out to bilge. would also look...

Confused New Owner of an Old Boat

Yes it is a Chevy 6. Merc used several sizes over the years ,most common was the 250 cid 165 hp. was also available in earlier 230 cid/150 hp and later taller deck 292 cube models. Very common reliable engine. GM stopped using them in the US in 1982…had the 150 hp version in my grandfathers 1966...

How to Diagnose No Fuel at Carb 7.4

Yes the check valves flow from tank through pump to carb. The diaphragms in that pump are fine unless the check valves are bad pump should work. given you found the pick up tube was molested and goobered back together I’d start there

    94 Cris Craft Concept 268

One thing to keep in mind as you continue your boat search is how much of the work can you realistically do yourself? If you need to rely on taking the boat somewhere look around at what shops are near you and what they support. while the King Cobra is a different animal than the cobra, it...

Mercruiser 888 (302) Cylinder Head swap?

this is exactly what is being recommended to me for my 65 Pontiac engine rebuild. Well known Pontiac engine builder told me that the hardened seats are not necessary. Also can run into issues when pressing them in and hitting water jackets as these older heads were not cast to have inserts. This...

    Ballast Resistor or not?

If the points have not been replaced with pertronix etc then yes this is correct. During crank voltage drops a bit anyways, normal on points ignition to bypass the resistor for hotter spark and quicker starting. yes the shift interrupt grounds the negative side of the coil to momentarily kill...

MerCruiser 5.0 Carb Engine Compression Test, Two Piston came back with Zero

How many is a few years ? Yes I would assume the valves are hung up or the seats are corroded. You can probably pop a valve cover, take the rockers off and smack the valves with a dead blow. would also put some marvel mystery oil in the cylinders let it soak . Typically when engines have sat I...
