    2003 Crownline 180 flooring question

IIRC, there is a fair amount of wood in Crownline boats. If you can get a glimpse of the flooring edge, maybe in the area around the engine bay, that might tell the story.

Water inlet hose replacement on Bravo 3

When I replaced the water inlet hoses on my twin Bravo drives, it seemed like you had to do it from the outside (bell housing removed). If the hose (and insert) has already started to collapse, you may be able to get needle nose pliers (from the inside) between the hose and insert to further...

Bottom paint $400 (DIY) Outdrive anti-fouling - $75 (DIY) Can of fogging oil $15 (if it doesn't move and it should) Duct Tape $7 (if it moves and it shouldn't) Anodes $75 . . . maybe double that if you keep the...

97 23 ft Larson Bilge Pump replacement

Any of the Attwood or Rule (non-automatic) pumps of about 500 gph capacity and 3/4" hose fitting should work. This video may help . . .

    My boat is being a boat . . .

OK - the starboard engine is going all-in on the cooling system woes. Not only is the water pressure an issue, but coolant reservoir is overflowing. I also noticed the coolant temperature would go a bit high and then recover back to normal. I'm thinking that either the H.E. cap (radiator cap)...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Quick update: Per the service manual the raw water pressure should be at least 20 psi at 4000 rpm. I took the boat out today and ran it up to 4200 (ish) rpm. Port engine was at 27 psi Starboard engine was at 17 psi Engine temperatures are fine (165) So, I’ll be doing the backflushing next...

    Vintage Mercury Cooling Issue

Ignition System Update . . . I went through the ignition system the past few days. Coil resistance is about 1 ohm each . . . maybe a bit less. The cam levers on the points were a bit worn and getting only about 0.010 gap. So, I set those to the 0.020 spec. I also cleaned up the the...

Welcome to iBoats . . . The wiring of significance is going to be engine related, so you should see about getting the engine manual, if you don't have one. 3 things to make the engine run . . . fuel compression spark It would be best to figure out which one you don't have. Did the marina...

    Trim gage not working

My idea is water gets into the sender unit on the outdrive. Another common thing is that the wires leading from the sender fray/break.

I ran Mr. 43T plugs in my 454's . . . never a problem. I would rule out other possibilities vs. bad plugs.

    Strange engine sound need help

Stuff a rag in the water inlet hose while you are replacing the belt. You will get some water in the bilge, but not too much. Depending on how much slack there is with the hose, you may be able to position the hose above the water line while you work.

    Strange engine sound need help

Have you replaced the belt? I would not start chasing other things until you have replaced the serpentine belt and have thoroughly checked the pulleys for proper alignment.

    Blister repair .

Grind the blisters open . . .but then you should really let them dry out for a while. (weeks) You can then fill them with epoxy.

    Vintage Mercury Cooling Issue

Quick Update . . . The timing light confirmed the bottom cylinder not firing. I pulled the plug and it looked like it got some carbon fouling right away. . . (really not the right type of spark plug). I cleaned it up and now both cylinders are firing. Probably going to see about getting the...

Just catching up on this thread . . . The OP has run off, not been logged in or posted in the past 10 days. The compression test spec on my Mercruiser 7.4L w/ about an 8:1 compression ratio was 150 psi. (Manual #16) Once in a while you might see 160. I know the 357 MAG is a bored 350 w/...
