    MerCruiser update

Exactly belt and suspenders, plus it only offers more opportunity to sell more services. Not sure on the corrosion. Bottom line if you have a way of doing it that works for you stay with it. I drain , put the plugs back in backfill with a little AF to get any remaining water or water and...

Can the base of engine work? Two to bolts under engine are rusted and can

yes Quicksilver is OEM and the bearing will be sealed. Should have come with a pipe plug to replace the grease nipple in the transom housing Quicksilver is same parts as Mercury/Mercruiser , just different branding so they can sell them outside of their dealer network.

    prop question

if the laser has more cup or blade area then yes you would want to go down in pitch to stay at same rpm or improve hole shot. As mentioned very much a trial and error thing, since you are new to this might be better to spend a little more to work with a prop shop or marina/dealer who will let...

350 mag guardian thinks engine is running hot but gauge show good.

First would verify that the temp gauge is accurate with a IR gun on the thermostat housing. If it is not actually overheating likely issue is temperature sensor on port side of thermostat housing. If that was giving wrong temp indication to ECU that would likely cause what you are seeing.

Cannot be worse than a blown up engine .... seriously if you set it how you outline above you will be ok as you are setting to factory spec.

    prop question

Depends on how you use your boat. If top speed is your thing yes you don't want a 4 blade. If taking 6-7 people in you boat and going skiing or wakeboarding is then 4 blade can be an improvement in holeshot, stern lift and planning speed. If you have a beamy stern heavy boat like mine I get...

    Trailer axle capacity/sizing

Agreed my 3500 listed dry weight boat is on a 5200 lb dual axle aluminum trailer. I would not want to go any smaller.

    prop question

That is the best approach. Get wot rpm numbers with what you have. Likely going to a 19 three blade or an 18” 4 blade will give the results you want with out over revving on wot rpm. I had good luck in similar circumstances with michigan vortex 4 blades. Relatively cheap with good results

Hard plane after switch from points ignition

If you can’t get it into base just set the total timing at 2800 rpm or so. not sure what total timing specs are for your engine . Later 4.3 s took I think 24 degrees total so set it around there and see how it runs

    Oil level too high?

When mixing and matching put the correct amount of oil in and mark the dipstick with a hacksaw. Since you dont know what the correct amount is since you dont know what capacity the non-stock pan is use Scotts recommendation of 3.5" below the rail. Would seem based on what you saw that you...

    1998 4.3 GL Head Replacement

For sure. Marinas that successfully do this on hundreds of boats are using a large tank with huge amounts of PG, checking for dilution. the avg guy doing 5 gal is not enough run time, and on the hose with cooler water in spring and fall it is tough to really get the engine hot. I do use this...
