    "Tohatsu" no model/serial #?

If boats and trailers alone are registered in your name, you are OK. If OBs are registered and titled as as well, you're screwed. (Like Ohio to name one) It sounds like its a Tohatsu, so maybe a Merc private label. Go to a Merc dealer and maybe he can fix you up. 1935 Seahorses are awesome...

    "Tohatsu" no model/serial #?

Can't tell by the pics what it is. Show us a pic of the cowl. Based on what you have described, its a classic example of a stolen motor.

    Dealing with insurance,boat totaled?

Been there done that. His liability, his insurance. Your agreed value should have nothing to do with it because your insurance company won't have to pay out. In my case, the repair quote was more than his insurance company said the boat was worth. They offered a lowball price and I balked...

Do you use non ethanol gas ?

When I was a teenager my Dad bought a brandspanking new Pontiac land yacht for my Mom for their 20th anniversary. It was Mom's first car. The owner's manual said it was good for leaded gas, but unleaded was OK. It bothered Dad because he wasn't sure what to do. Later, leaded was outlawed, so...

Do you use non ethanol gas ?

As a Chemical Engineering major (back in the late 1960's) we all had to design a factory from the ground up. All the professors chose ethanl plants as our example. Don't know what that means, but ethanol was popular even back then.

Do you use non ethanol gas ?

That's the winner.......LOL. Back in the day in Winter we all added ethanol (aka dry gas) to the gas tank to safely get us thru the snow season healthy. But the youngins never heard of that and the boomers were too lazy. (Where is Ralph Nader when you need him.......LOL)

Do you use non ethanol gas ?

You just shot yourself in the foot with that quote. If the govmt says it's so, you must believe its not true. Ethanol in gas was not done for ecological or environmental reasons. It's all political and that's all I'm going to say about that. I personally don't care what any professor or...

Do you use non ethanol gas ?

Its simply amazing to me how all the cwazy stuff gets disseminated. I use E10 in my garden stuff BECAUSE it stores better. Things like my tiller and chainsaw get used only once a year, and the gas is several years old. Still run perfect. Gooey...OMG myths galore. E10 ABSORBS water and makes...

    Modern Engine Thoughts

Many seem to forget the maintenance / service thing. Try to find a mechanic that will work on a 2-stroke. In my area there are tons of boat dealers. Only 1 will take in an oil burner, and that's all he does. Wait in line. Even worse, some places won't even work on a carbed I/O over XX years...

Do you use non ethanol gas ?

I haven't had trouble with plugged carbs BECAUSE I run E10. In my area they were selling this stuff to us for a couple years and we didn't know. Sure we all noticed a slight drop in mpg, but nobody had problems until after they told us. Gotta have something to blame for poor maintenance.

    Modern Engine Thoughts

An E-Tec 'Rude in today's world is maybe a moot point. It's like buying an OMC I/O.

    Elgin 5HP motor

I have a '54 5 HP, as shown in the pictures. The telltale hole is to the left of the sticker, right behind the tiller handle bracket.

Disconnecting the fuel line, let engine burn gas ?

In all the years I ran triple carb motors I did the disconnect as well. If the pistons aren't already lubed with a lot of oil, then something else is wrong because a few seconds with no gas ain't gonna hurt it. My 1955 Mercury outboard owner's manual says to use gas stabilizer during the off...

Disconnecting the fuel line, let engine burn gas ?

Grandpa gave me my first outboard motor in 1965. He told me to run the gas out when I was done using kit. I've been doing that ever since, with no exception. I have read that some of the very small 4-strokes with little carbs will eventually have problems if gas is left in. I have 3.5 and...

    2004 21 Seaswirl Striper

I think without a T-top that was the standard (base model) engine for that boat. With the right prop I don't see a problem. I didn't look it up on NADA. You should do that before deciding what its worth. That's a quality boat, but only if its been taken care of.

Yet another - how to paint my trailer post :)

Its been a long time, so I had to google it. Apparently, it has been superseded. Personally, the rust reformer in COMBINATION with the fish oil was my claim to success. But that's just my opinion. At the time, (36 years ago) I was a paint chemist and had access to a lot of data...

    2005 Evinrude 175

Zinc Chromate primer is THE answer, but its a health hazard and not available everywhere. Etching primer works "almost" as good.
