    Nobody fishing?

When I was in the army (light years ago) we sometimes went fishing in a wild way. We would throw a piece a bread in the water and wait for the fish to come to the surface to start feeding on the bread. Then we put a bullet right through the middle of the bread. The impact of the bullet on the...

How Do I Remove a Stuck Gimbal Bearing?

I remember reading in a Mercruiser service manual that the seal is mostly there to keep the grease of the gimbal bearing out of the bilge. I remember the challenging job of cleaning the grease out of the bilge of a friend's boat. This was after we had pulled the engine. The oil pan was all...

    transducer mounting

The Alumaducers are known for very poor performance. If they were any good, they would also be made by Airmar and Airmar does not want to touch them.

    changing transducers and fishfinders.

I mainly troll for salmon which are usually just below the thermocline or they rest on the bottom The 587 does a very good job in the depths that I fish, but because of the 19 degree cone of the Airmar 260 I miss a lot of fish that are of to the side. On a quiet day , that is no problem because...

    transducer mounting

There are all sorts. If you have an aluminum boat you can mount one by drilling a hole through the bottom of your rig and fitting the transducer inside the hole. These come in brass, stainless and some sort of plastic. you will have to pick the one that will not cause corrosion in your...

How Do I Remove a Stuck Gimbal Bearing?

What about the gimball bearing puller? It is a tool designed for this job, and it can also help drive a new gimball in place while evenly driving it in. I bought one about 15 years ago and I have yet to see the bearing it did not get out by simply using a large ratchet handle to tighten the...

    changing transducers and fishfinders.

I mostly fish Lake Ontario In depths of 40 to 200 feet down and sometimes but rarely at 450 feet down I currently use a Furuno 587 with a TM260 transducer and a Garmin UHD 64CV with a GT24UHD-TM Transducer. I am not really happy with this setup. There just seem to be too many monitors on the...

    Best survival "package, hatchet?

You've got to go with the times. A good sturdy drone to scout out your area is probably worth its weight in gold.

Will a 3.0 run on 1 spark plug???

It is probably time to get rid of your points and install a Delco EST Marine Kit. No more messing around with worn or wet points and very precisely timed ignition.I did it and it is just great

Has anyone used the ready lime (not the brand name) to descale their outboard

A solution of 2 parts of vinegar and one part of salt makes hydrochloric acid also known as HCL which is a very powerful calcium dissolving acid

Has anyone used the ready lime (not the brand name) to descale their outboard

Next time, just use a few gallons of vinegar with salt added. Does just the same and is probably even cheaper. I usually just try to fill up the cooling system completely and let it sit for a couple of hours to get it to soften the calcium inside and then I run the engine to rotate the stuff...

How bad of an idea is this for OB support while trailering?

If it is only to stop a faulty hydraulic system from dumping the outboard on the road, it is fine. Just don't think for one moment that it will act as a transom saver. The only problem I can see is the installing and removing or forgetting that its on there.

Shift rod position after impeller change

I am not sure if you have that possibility, but is there a place where you can get your boat to and drag the rear end out so that the engine is either over very shallow water or just on land? I used to do this at our lake. The lower unit can be removed that way without expensive removal from...

Re-post of Boomyal's Brined Turkey Recipe!

There is one thing that all you briners and grillers and stewers , whether your bird is the best or the worst, do have in common. You are preparing for a shared meal with friends , family and others, dear to you. That is where the blessing lays. May all of you have a blessed season to share.

Shift rod position after impeller change

It sounds to me that the mechanic screwed up. Presuming that you paid him , he should fix the problem that he created. There should have been no grinding gears and these "adjustments" sound to me like he is blowing you off.

Re-post of Boomyal's Brined Turkey Recipe!

The name Boomyal and Aspeck on the same page takes me back to the wild west days of Dockside Chat. But yes, Boomyal does know how to make a turkey taste better than most.

Major stores NOW DEMAND I open a full account to buy anything.

That only works when the possibility is offered. Many do not have that possibility. I use the other alternative which is just not buying from those companies. I realize that I must be fighting windmills and as such prone to lose no matter what, but at least it gives me the illusion of fighting...

Major stores NOW DEMAND I open a full account to buy anything.

I also have a bone to pick here. All those companies wanting me to register with them in order to become a "registered member" complete with username and password. And no, its not that the companies run a risk of unsupported credit card, because the payment is always verified before the...
