Conversion from I/O to outboard on Islander.

Yes it is a Starcraft Islander. In my opinion it is the best towable great lakes boat. The I/O to outboard conversion is probably going to happen on a 1983 22 foot Sylvan , which is a Starcraft in but name and location of the fuel tanks

Conversion from I/O to outboard on Islander.

The sample pictures that I used are from a 1985 Boston Whaler 18 Outrage that was originally outfitted with a sea drive. The problem with the sea drive is the 30 inch setback from the transom which makes towing for longer road trips very hard on the transom. With only a setback of 12 inches and...

This is what the bracket would look like

Conversion from I/O to outboard on Islander.

So I completely finished my 221 Islander project. It works like a dream . This 1989 rig with a new 4.3 engine and cobra outdrive in great condition is very nice indeed. The only problem is that it is all done. I like to putter, build and change things. So now I am thinking about changing it to...

    Lost keys

I guess this is mostly for catholic people. They have a saint for just about anything. There finding lost stuff specialist saint is St Anthony of Padua. Some people swear by this. As for me... I'm not a member of that church so I cannot really say for sure, but a little prayer does not anyone.

    Transom Wood Selection

I would use marine grade plywood with eight ply layers. The ply layers are made with the grain crisscrossing at 90 degrees for every layer whereas a wooden board has all the grain in one direction only. When the wood gets wet, the board may split length wise along the grain, plywood will never...

Towing a 22 foot Islander that was changed from I/O to outboard on bracket.

Yes, I was going to buy that one. The price was right and I really wanted it. It did not sell right away, but when I was ready to buy,it had sold literally the previous day

Towing a 22 foot Islander that was changed from I/O to outboard on bracket.

That would make sense if I add the full width bracket. that's something to ponder. Thank you.

Towing a 22 foot Islander that was changed from I/O to outboard on bracket.

I am seriously considering changing the propulsion on my Islander from I/O to outboard on a bracket. This will add about 3 to 4 feet of overall length but it will also change the weight distribution. The extra weight on the rear end may also make towing unwise. I'm not talking about the trailer...

2025 should have a bumper crop of freeze busted blocks come spring

Do I sense some form of sarcasm? But look at the positive side of things. It will increase the sale of equipment and it will also increase the availability of parts that came of those broken blocks. So (almost) everybody will gain from this situation.

    Should I Buy A Jackplate

Do you mean the cavitation plate sits one inch below the bottom of the hull? If so you should try to raise it that one inch. Seeing that these 115s are bolted onto the transom you should be able to raise the engine by clamping the engine just a little higher.

    1st time buying old boat

It looks nice on the surface, but the big red flag to me is all the water pouring out when you raised the front. The flotation material in the boat has been sitting in the water for at least one winter and probably more than that. My guess is that it is completely soaked The rivets leaking in...

    Mercruiser bearing carrier tool

Exactly what bearing are you trying to pull? If it is the gimbal, it is the wrong tool.

Look at the bright side. At least you have ice! Please do not make the snow yellow.

    Nobody fishing?

I went over it just now and I see where your idea comes from. 50 years ago there was a lamprey problem, but that was not the reason why lake trout populations collapsed. It was pollution and also an over fishing (commercial) problem. With all the DDT and other poisons settling on the bottom...

    Nobody fishing?

I have been involved in Lamprey treatment and we always try to treat the lamprey spawning streams when the spawning happens. Sometimes a freak rain will flush the treatment chemicals or the overall creek levels are at flood stage in which case we cannot treat the streams. I think you should...
