    I think your heating was caused by the raw water pump, the thermostat may still be good. Overheating very rarely hurts this starter, check the cables that they did not get burned from the manifold if they were too close. Are you sure the battery is charged?

    The way you are describing if may be a wiped cam lobe. You need to pull the valve covers and turn the engine over watching if any of the rocker arms are not moving as much as the others.

    Measure the distance between the rear mounting holes on the flywheel cover. If your original flywheel cover has a wider spread you are going to have some problems.

    If you are asking about the other hole are referring to the hole on the bottom of the manifold? If so be sure that there is not an exhaust leak in that area. The 1/4” tubing has to go all the way through to seal off the exhaust.

    The rods are binding in the packing glands where they extend out of the ram tubes. Sierra marine rebuild kit. # 18-2291. Sierra also has complete rams #18-2142. Your pump will deliver up to 3000 lbs in the up mode but only delivers 800 lbs in down mode. That is why they will not retract.
