    Question regarding prop shaft

No idea really but usually the prop shaft has a thrust washer for the prop to push against on the shaft, tapered for a tight fit on Merc. engines and then the prop (if pressed hub no accessories) and then some sort of retainer. On removable hubs, you have the hub and the prop shell. On Merc...

    1997 mercury 115 hp

I run with about 10* of positive tilt out (LU away from the boat) when running below 2k RPM. It's not rocket science for me. I can be in the no wake zone with the engine tucked in and notice the engine vibrating somewhat and all I do is trim the rear of the engine up slightly as mentioned...

Anybody ever hear of this one?

You are lucky you could shut the engine down. Paraphrasing what Faztbullet said, one day I was in the driveway, on muffs, working on my linkage on a 90 hp 2 stroke looper and I got the timing too fast (somewhere in excess of 22* BTDC I guess) and the engine took off on its own (pre-ignition...

    1987 Rager 373 Battery

No. Some SWAGs: Trolling motor is probably 24 volt and it may have a 12v option so you may have 3 wires going from your 2 TM batteries to your TM and it may have a 50 amp circuit breaker somewhere...probably at the batteries. That usually is a separately wired item. Everything else runs off...

Outboard alarm sounds with engine turned off

That's interesting. On Mercury engines the alarm voltage is supplied via the key switch in On and Start. If the post was for a Mercury I would say the key switch was in need of replacing due to bleed voltage internally pin to pin. Course to go with that you would have to add a bonafide alarm...

Engine is running fine but no power would lack of engine kill laynyard be the problem?

The lanyard connects to an engine kill switch. If it is in the off position, your engine will not run period. Your problem could be numerous things and usually fall into 1 of 2 categories...fuel or ignition related. You have to figure out which and then proceed to supply us with data to help...

    Info on alumacraft

Friend had a side mounted console on that boat (don't know the model number change) and ran a 33 Johnson on it. A tiller 25 will give you some fun times with that FD back in original layout. I had a 12' with a 9.9 McCullough and there were several in our boating circle. Very popular, clean...

    Prop cavitation

I don't see the thrust washer as being a cause for ventilation. It keeps the prop from eating up the lower unit casting. You have some other problem. I have a bad habit of getting "too close" to a problem. Need to back off and see what "else" you changed from when things were working right.

    1997 mercury 115 hp

The engine has no fast idle distinction. It has to be in the control box and a mechanical to electrical interface.....a switch has to get depressed by a piece of something (cast aluminum) that moves when you move the lever/is part of the lever assembly. Just because the draftsperson who did...

    Old propeller problems

Why don't you contact Michigan Wheel. They were pioneers in the prop business and were THE after market wheel supplier back in the late 1950s when I started boating. They should have helpful information, if not where to buy such.

    1997 mercury 115 hp

The manual shows a 2000 not a 3000. The switch has to be adjacent to the casting that makes up the single lever remote which means it's internal to the control box. Getting the box off the bulkhead so that you can get to the bolts to separate the halves of the box isn't easy. First place to...

Dry carbon fouled plugs 120 hp mercruiser

Fuel pressure isn't very much, like 3 psi at idle and 6 at WOT on some engines. If the pressure is too high, the float is unable to keep the needle valve that lets fuel into the carb bowl seated and you flood and run rich.

Electric short between starter gear and flywheel!?!

I would guess you have the power to the starter on the wrong terminals. Get out your digital multimeter...if you don't have one Harbor Freight sells them for sure for less than 10 bucks and surely numerous other places. Put it on the Ohms measurement type and lowest scale...like 200 Ohms...

    1971 Tri-Sonic Riviera

As I recall Travis Boat Sales and/or Phil Dill Boats in Lewisville, Tx. used to sell them. "I lusted in my heart" (Jimmy Carter) for one back then but couldn't afford it. Popular on Lake Dallas/Lewisville and Texoma with the Trihedral hull. Great for Texas' windy lakes. Not sure it that's...

    Mercruiser 3.0 L Prop Question

Very possibly that is what came on your boat when new. Staying with the same mfgr., model/type, pitch and diameter should return you to your original performance....assuming your engine is up to it's original performance.

Lower prop pitch to get higher RPM?

On the prop the cause...nope. If it were the problem it would be with you when you install it.

You didn't give the pitch of the "different prop". Assuming it was 15P looks like it's doing what it is supposed to do: https://www.go-fast.com/Knowledge-base/Find-your-prop-slip/Prop-slip-calculator

70 HP Mercury 700 2 Stroke runs rough with cowl installed

Glad you figured it out. Interesting problem but "exhaust gas recirculation" does reduce combustible volume in the cylinders. Question is, what and why the hole.
