    1979 Glastron Carlson CV-23 restoration

I’ve seen others cut the tops off the stringers, dig out the core then fill the center with SeaCast. Once filled, cap with glass. I showed my buddy this method when his motor fell through one of the rotted mounts on his Rinker. It worked extremely well.

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Thanks! We take good care of her. The original vinyl is starting to show it’s age, and has gotten a bit rigid over the years. Pretty much all of it has new plywood backers. Just have to figure out if I want to modernize it some or keep the original pattern.

    Westerbeke generator

Jumping 12v to the solenoid won’t hurt it. Being this is at the bottom of the bowl they do tend to get cruddy. I doubt it would start at all if stuck closed. If it was starving for fuel it would start to run lean and sputter before it died. If it just shuts off, it sounds like a safety switch...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

I haven’t updated my rebuild thread in quite some time. We’ve really been enjoying the crap out of this boat. The older daughter doesn’t come with us much, but the younger girl and my wife do, as well as the dog. After being on my buddies new Axis wake surf boat a few times, I really am jealous...

    Fuel line connection

Especially when ethanol chews everything up so quickly. Even the ethanol resistant stuff eventually succumbs.

    New Purchase - 1977 14’ Stuery Walk-around

Most retailers including iBoats have parts look ups for props. You can enter the model of the motor and you’ll get a list of props that’ll fit it. Those motors are pretty reliable. Crank her up and go fishing. Good luck!

Need info on plastic tanks in the engine well

Pop off a hose and take a whiff. Should be pretty easy to determine what was in the tank.

Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

Yeah, that stuffs a pain to get up. Nothing really cuts the hardened glue, and clogs the crap out of sanding discs.

Advice on a 4 winns restoration

That’s a shame. I completely restored my 20’ Chaparral by myself. Mine may have been a little easier since it was an open bow. That said, any boat from this era will be rotted unless it was restored. The 3.0 is a good motor, and extremely reliable. It would make a decent boat if restored, and...

Are wheel locks the way to go?

I guess since on the farm we had both types, we differentiate between drawbars and inserts. If I was asked to go fetch a drawbar, I’d probably be hit over the head if I brought an insert, LOL.

1980 Beachcraft I/O Pretty but Rotten

With a closed bow I couldn’t imagine not decapping the boat if it’s built with a wood core. With a 1980’s boat the rot will be everywhere. The fact this company touts glass core is interesting. Still, the foam would almost certainly need to be replaced. The decision is yours. Can you handle it...

Help getting the Henry O project on the water

I had an ‘89 Johnson 90hp with VRO. It was very easy to remove that massive pump and replumb. A Johnson impulse pump from the same year(s) will bolt right on to the block since these motors came with or without VRO from the factory. A motor that old I would definitely get rid of the VRO and...

Are wheel locks the way to go?

We have draw bars on tractors. The hitch can be swung on different angles depending on what you’re pulling along the draw bar. At least that’s what I’ve always called a draw bar. Our Farmall M and H had these built into the tractor, our Ford had an attachment we put on the 3 point hitch. Like...

1977 Crestliner Muskie 7**, Outboat Restore Project

I definitely like this idea. I did something similar but I did bolt through the deck. The captain chairs for example. I placed the pedestal bases on an encapsulated plywood disk that was PB’d to the floor. The thought here was that the bolt holes securing the pedestals were higher than the deck...
