Mercruiser 5.7 carbureted wont start when warm

Going back to this post….the ball check, (if that’s what you’re talking about), is for the accelerator pump. During a rebuild one of the little known tricks is to form a new seat for the stainless steel ball. 1. Ensure the seat is clean. Use a-tips, carb cleaner, compressed air. 2. Inspect the...

    Help fixing bridged gelcoat

Did you give the bare plywood a good drink of resin, let kick, then another drink of resin prior to laying the mat? It looks like the fiberglass is starved. Like all of the resin was wicked away from your mat.

What to use to repair stringers

There been lots of discussion over the years about dimensional lumber vs exterior grade plywood. Plywood always comes out on top for numerous reasons. I’ve not bought a piece of PT wood that’s been completely dry. Maybe it’s just my locality.

    New member, old boat question.

We’ve seen this type of a core when the transom is curved or irregular. These are glassed over to provide strength as the cut pieces glued together by themselves would have no strength and would break apart. Going through all this work AFTER installing a proper transom seems like a lot of work...

Can I convert Yamaha manual trim to electric?

You can always figure out which series Yamaha motors fit the transom bracket for your motor. Then find a motor with a bad power head but good trim tilt assy. and convert it. You would also need the controls. You would probably get more answers from the Yamaha outboard section of the forum.

I’m certain you’ll find the same as you look closer at the stringers. Also as you move into the fuel tank area which is specifically prone to rot due to condensation.

Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

So you’re putting down plywood to coverup the glue from the last carpet? How do you plan on securing it? Will the existing glue give problems with a bond?

    Captain's Chair Pedestal and Carpet

Good marine carpet should have a rubberized bottom which helps prevent fraying. Just take your time and use a sharp knife. When cutting a circle like this, start with an x over the circle and make small cuts a little at a time to cut out each quarter. I really thought hard about longevity and...

Alpha One II grinds in reverse

It doesn’t hurt to try and will most likely help. That adjustment will only affect reverse and should help engage the shift dog deeper. Best practice would be to perform the complete shift cable adjustment procedure ensuring your cable is in spec. It sounds to me like your cable is stretched, so...

    Captain's Chair Pedestal and Carpet

What boat? Prepare yourself for the ugly that lies under your deck. Boats rot from the bottom up. Depending on how your boat is built, you may have rotted stringers.

    Captain's Chair Pedestal and Carpet

This is how I did mine. Cut 2 disks out of plywood, glued to the deck after the deck was glassed. Used PB as the glue. Carpet is cut around the disk. Water won’t pool up near the pedestal fasteners since the disk is higher than the carpet. If you set the pedestal on the carpet you are inviting...
