    1993 Wellcraft Eclipse196S Rebuild

The transom does look better than most as does the deck. Since boats rot from the bottom up, expect to see some rot the lower you go in your investigation. At least you’ll have some good pieces to build patterns from.

Looks to me like you have 3 options. The first option is to remove the run rail and separate the cap from the hull. This will give you access to everything you need to restore. With this boat, you’ll have rotted stringers to replace and soaked foam, along with the transom to repair. The other...

    Cracked block leaking water

Nope, it’s a long drawn out process that if not performed perfectly results in the classic “tink” when the cast starts to cool. I’ve tried nickel rods and braising without much success.

    Water stains

Works toilet bowl cleaner in a garden sprayer does a great job getting the yellow out of a white gelcoat hull. Like already mentioned, don’t get it on a metal trailer or concrete floor. Rinse with plenty of water, use a respirator and safety glasses. It’s pretty potent stuff.

Just acquired a 170 Horizon. Assembly required.

Never tried a 4 blade on mine. I tried my damnedest to hit 50mph in my chap. Just wouldn’t do it. 48 was top of the top, and it was like being on ice, lol. It runs much better with the hydrofoil on and a 21” prop. Much more stable with the fin and doesn’t list on plane when my load isn’t...

Welcome aboard. Send some pics of your boat. Depending on whether or not you can get to the transom will determine if you need to take off the cap. Once you can get to it, it’s a matter of cutting off the skin, getting rid of all the wood. Gluing in new wood, then encapsulating in fiberglass.

    Cracked block leaking water

Looks like a block swap to me…..It also looks like it’s got some splooge on it from a previous bad attempt at a repair. That thing is shot….times 2.

    Potential project boat

Welcome to the forum. Just in the two interior pics you attached it looks to me to be a complete gut job. Not knowing the make or year, I’m not sure of the “bones”. Keep in mind even if the floors don’t feel soft doesn’t mean the stringers and transom are good. Boats like this use fiberglass...

If you can get to a fuel tank port, you can take a sample off the bottom of the tank with a fuel tank bottom sampler. It’s basically a clear tube, with a hand actuated vacuum pump. You can also send in fuel samples to Blackstone Laboratories and have them tested. It’s good to know what you’re...

    1990 Bayliner 2651 resto

I find Purple degreaser to be a much better product than Simple Green. Use a spray bottle, a stiff bristled brush, and some rags. It’ll come out clean and bright.

Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

I would definitely try everything to get the existing glue off. MEKP is a strong solvent. Did you try looking up that glue on-line and ask for a remedy to remove the glue? No carpet is permanent, so there should be a method to remove.

Like Kevin stated, PL is a glue. It’s made by Loctite and is called Pro-Line polyurethane construction adhesive. It’s a really good glue but has some draw backs as mentioned such as gassing off and making bubbles if applied too thick. I used it when glueing wood pieces together like sections of...
