Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Psychologically speaking I needed to get something completed. So many things left open at this point, and one task waits on another. I decided to install the bow pads just to get one thing looking finished. I spent a couple hours on these. Honestly, they're not in the best shape. I think they'll...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

I decided to start finishing the bow area this evening. I sanded the gelcoat from the holes I patched a few weeks ago. These holes were used to attach head rests the PO had custom made. The pads ere in bad shape, and not really my thing. Sanded and buffed out, it's hard to tell where the patches...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Thanks everyone, it really felt good getting that engine bolted down. On Sunday I located the bench seat and figured out how I would secure it. I placed some composite angles strategically in key areas to keep it from sliding around. The bench will be bolted into the angles thus securing it in...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Huge day today. My friend Brandon came over to give me a hand installing the motor. I set up my gantry crane and got the motor under it. While the motor was up, I installed the remote drain tube and added fresh oil and a filter. Then it was time for the big lift... I'm whipped. I got a...

No Title I got them at Home Depot. I searched Lowes to no avail. These are really decent rollers that do not shed. So far I've been pleased with the results. The gel coat lays down pretty low. The finish is more of an orange peel, as opposed to a rough surface that a higher nap roller would...

Coats 3 and 4. Also tightened up the hole that the fuel fill tube and vent pass through. The idea is that if water gets on the seat bases, it doesn't follow the hoses into the foam cavity.

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Just a quick update. First coat of gel is down. I am really happy with the results. I am using 1/4" nap smooth surface rollers to lay it down. The inside and outside corners look great. All that fairing paid off.

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

It was a hot one today, but sand I did. Started out sanding the polyester based fairing compound. It was close, but still had some voids. So I started the seemingly never ending cycle of Bondo, sand, vacuum; Bondo, sand, vacuum. And got it really close today. It may not look like much, (except...

Sanded out the fairing compound and added a second layer. I also installed the steering ram. It needed cleaned up good, and flushed. All the old fluid has been expelled.

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Used some of the WOG signature series Limited edition faring compound in the bow area. I want to get this area pretty smooth before gel coating. Looks like crap but it should sand out nice. Also fiberglassed the sides of by side panel supports. I am making these as water resistant as possible...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Laid a sheet of plastic down on my freshly glassed deck. After that I cut some CSM for the area under the consoles. I glassed those areas as well as the pocket supports for the side panels.

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Got a little glassing done after work. I laid up some CSM to level the deck in preparation of gel coat. I needed the rest of the deck to be even with the tabbing. Although not necessary for strength, this was more cosmetic. I have a little left to do under the consoles.

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Got a good bit of work done today. I ground down all the nubs from glueing the pucks back in. I took some time and wiped the deck down and vacuumed dust out of the boat. I made a thin batch of thickened resin skimmed over the pucks and some other defects in the deck. I also installed the new...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

I feel like a mile stone was achieved. I plugged all of the holes made to pour the foam. I glued the pucks back in place with thickened resin and chopped strands. Since the 4lb foam is in place now, I removed the 2x6 supports under the hull and placed the boat directly on the wobble rollers...

    Thunder on Cocoa Beach.

First day of vacation. We swung into Orlando last night then over to Cape Canaveral for a couple days before our cruise. I couldn't believe my luck......off shore racing boats are in town for Thunder on Cocoa Beach. We watched several awesome machines today hauling tail up and down the coast...

The FedEx man came bearing gifts!! And free ones at that! Credit card reward points are awesome!! Bilge pump, blower and duct, and stainless elevator bolts for the side pads. More bolts than I'll use, but I couldn't resist the price!! 🤘🏼

Picture of the wye pipe installed. Love the black against the white gelcoat. Another layer of tabbing on the deck today. Some finishing touches of glass before I start faring the bow in preparation of gelcoat. Things seem to be moving at a snails pace now. Weekends just aren't long enough.
