    Motor update. Got it all together, did a test start with engine on stand. Started right up! Initial timIng adjustment and she purrs like a lion. Will install in boat, recheck timing at proper idle and go catch some prawns! Thank you so much all!

    Proper info for timing a Merc 140

    1978 Mercruiser 140, serial number 3773776, electronic ignition upgrade. Doing research and I am getting different info on how many degrees, BTDC, I need to set timing. Some say 8deg, some 6deg, some 4deg. Can the wise and all knowing group from this forum please set me straight?! Thanks as...

    Oops….good eye! I forgot to mention that the clear line you see going line going from the pump to the “tank” is strictly there for a test run while motor is out of boat. It will go to a small gas can. Actual fuel line is to code. Great catch.

    I purchased the fitting at a store that specializes in fittings and hoses. I specified it was for fuel and he assured me it was the correct hose

    Got her done! $1 fitting and $4 of fuel rated line, little thread sealer on the fitting and … BOOM! Thanks fir all your help. Feel good knowing it’s done right!

    looks like the carb I have. I think I found where the nipple can be retrofitted on it. Left pic is my carb with bolt where I think nipple shoukd be. Right pic is internet shot of carb with nipple. Just gotta find the proper attachment now

    So doing some research. It’s definitely a marine carb, parts number directs to a Rochester carb for Mercruiser. Nothing actually written about retrofitting a card pre fuel vent. Found a picture where it seems fuel vent line connects to carb and where mine simply has a bolt in it. I’ve attached...

    I will have to see if it is possible to retrofit a fixture on the carb because, as it stands, there is no fixture to plug the vent tube that would come from the pump. I will study newer schematics to see where it is supposed to fit.
