Swap drives from one boat to another. How many day project?

I’m going to try tugging one boat to the shop this weekend… once I have both boats at the shop and ready. What will I need and how long will it take? I’m pulling out a 1970 Mercruiser 120 and transom assembly ( drive is off ) and installing a 1986 140 with Alpha gen 1. Donor boat is complete...

    Glasspar Avalon 1966 pricing

Water ready. Probably $6k on a lucky day. Realistically probably half that You’re going to find a decent amount of interest with fishermen wanting to chop it up into a fishing boat and pay very little for it

    I don’t think this is a Starcraft

Depends on the year. If the boat uses a transferable registration then it’s easy with a photo of the HIN or serial number and an MV 51 and 51B. Also cars before 1973 as they are all transferable registration.. anything with an actual title would be impossible almost. I had to look up the last...

    Transom

Too much. A scary amount. 100hrs of work at $150 an hr figure, plus $5k or so in materials. More if they mark them up. Stringers deck and transom 99% of the time rot together

    What size trailer?

My little boat is a 14’ StarCraft runabout. I bought one of the smaller Venture trailers that fits up to a 16’ trailer with the trailer length at 17’. It gives me about a 3’ tongue and I love launching with it.

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

That sometimes works. It will not work if the beads are touching. When I worked at the tire shop we had every available technique. What worked best for cheap trailer tires was a ring blaster.

    Data on Vintage Boat

I meant to say 1998. Typo

    Data on Vintage Boat

It’s a 1988 Lowe 1665 per the HIN. They will have all the information most likely. According to factory specifications

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

My wife is filing the paperwork for the trailer on Friday and im picking up tires Friday night. thinking I may tug the parts boat to where im going to do the swap on Saturday. The trailer I’m going to junk, which is under the StarCraft now has tires that look great BUT they are marked USA...

Is my hull bad? Replacing stringers and seeing lots of flex

The fiberglass is just a shell. The structure is provided by the stringers, deck and foam. You most likely need a transom as well

    Old Glasspar boat

Value of the mechanicals + the trailer value minus the dump fee are all such boats are worth

Using old mercruiser 140 engine in boat that had 3.0L with alpha one gen 2

You will use the flywheel from the older motor and a coupler designed to fit the old motor to the newer outdrive. With all the right parts it’ll fit and work

Using old mercruiser 140 engine in boat that had 3.0L with alpha one gen 2

Bolt pattern on the crankshaft is different so the old flywheel won’t bolt to the new engine. One of the aftermarket companies makes parts to fit it together.

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

True I could do that. We used to do stretched tires at the shop I used to work at with ether.

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

My only hang up now is. The tires on the shoreline might not make it to where I’m going to swap the motors. The starcrafts old trailer is 4 lug as well so I can’t buy just one set of tires. The shoreline has nice galvanized wheels so buying assemblies won’t make sense. But getting trailer tires...

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

The StarCraft is almost 400 lbs lighter than the Four winns fiberglass 16 foot that it currently has on it. 1960 lbs per brochure vs 1,400 lbs per the 1971 StarCraft brocure… both the donor Four Winns and the shoreline trailer are 1986 so I can only guess they were sold/ put together from new

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

I don’t take the interstates. Don’t. Need to. I do have a blacktop company and a transfer station local so checking it wouldn’t be hard

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

I had to think about it for a minute but your right. I will probably tow test it to see where it’s at. Or put a scale on it

Correct no brakes on either. I know I can go to a metal supplier and will as long as I can get it galvanized
