Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

Because you are increasing the size of the lever. The axle needs moved forward to balance the load. I’m changing the boat itself so that would need done anyway. The tongue weight should be 10% or a little more of the gross total trailer weight

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

It’s 3x3 Galvanized tubing and the tongue is. 72” long. I did the rough guess measurements and measured forward 2’ and it would still actually fit. But I’ve found 8’ tongues at eastern marine and the axle can slide forward. It has notches for it. I love towing with a long tongue trailer. Both...

Just a reminder that summer will be here soon...

Going out fishing on my dad’s boat next weekend.. behind my work is a very large reservoir pond that I think is fire department water access. But it’s huge. Big enough that waves will come up on a windy day. Makes me itch to get out.

    Fuel tank repair

Given I know someone who just about blew himself up, and burned his shop down welding a gas tank…. I would advise against it. There are ways. Filling with water is sometimes the answer. That’s a lot of water.. I’d have a new one re fabricated

    Easiest Conversion

Just buy a 1.98 leg off of Facebook marketplace or SEI. You might be able to prop it close enough to work with what you have. I would drop in a 3.0L until you have time to make the switch to a 4.3L which is more involved. 3.0s are cheap and that will get you back on the water. A good used 3.7...

    Outboard motor weight

75hp rating. About 200-250 lbs depending on power tilt and trim or not

    Old Glasspar boat

Made before HIN was standard. 1972 or older if memory serves. A boat without paperwork is a hassle or impossible depending on state. The boat likely is going to need transom, deck, stringers and although there’s a good chance the motor will run. It too is going to need to be gone through and...

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

It’s a Shoreline that’s in question. Different company than shorelandr I think. They could be a subsidiary of the same. Anyway it has 14” tires if I remember correctly. The Tee Nee that the StarCraft is on is on 185/ 80 13s

Thinking about building a boat this fall

Design like that with a cabin screams Chugger boat, which is a design that could be built in a month or sooner depending on how ambitious you are

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

Looks like they have several lengths. I’ll have to measure and see what I need. The trailer has a few extra sets of holes to move the axle

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

My big StarCraft is sitting on an older Holesclaw or Tee Nee trailer that is structurally sound. But it’s in sad shape. It needs new rollers and everything. Wiring, wheels tires and bearings even before I move it. My little boat was easy as a brand new trailer was $900. I simply towed a new...

Mariner 4 Motor and Battery Question

IMO you don’t need 50# of thrust for that. 30# will move it as fast as it can go ( you will never get it on plane ). You will deplete your battery trying to get it to go faster. Lifepo4 batteries are good but given that it’s still somewhat unstable. I’d not cheap out.

    Tire Recommendation, Japanese Sedan

35 PSI is about right for that car. Whatever the door sticker is what you want. Not max on the tire Pulling to the left with torque steer probably means your steer ahead angle is off, which is a combination of front and rear toe being off.

    Mystery Motor Brand.

That has Hangkai 3.5hp vibes but that’s not what it is. Bet it’s similar. The Hangkai used a Yamaha 2hp leg with Honda weed whacker clone power head. That for sure has an air cooled engine. The water cooling I bet is just the exhaust. That’s how the Hangkai works. Again different but similar

    Bayliner Trophy Bilge pump question

someone could have wired the switch in series through the float switch making the dash switch make the circuit active. The wrong way to do it. You can sneak a metal coat hanger through a slot and lift the float to test it. The original pump was probably 800 gph or so. If you want to replace...

Anyone tried one of these boats?

It’s a drift boat. They all have that hull type. I’m not sure what the purpose of a drift boat is. I built a glen L drift pram but lost interest before I finished it

    Transom Bearing Plate Leak

i would inspect that boat carefully. I actually have a ‘86 Freedom 160 with 3.0 Merc as an engine donor for my starcraft. That boat is Rotted bad. The transom is like a hollow core door and the deck is wavy. Previous owner was actually running it on the water.

    Hybrid Vehicles

Yup. But you realize that the 18650 or similar cells that make up most lithium ion batteries are the same one used in vehicles. Your cell phone, laptop. Even your kids RC cars.. hybrid batteries are substantially smaller than an EV
