    Chrysler 75hp, need direction.

Clean all carbs. As there are three carbs, one feed each cylinder. If one is clogged, that cylinder will go lean and you will damage the piston. Put a clear cheap inline filer between the fuel pump and the carbs. It will help you a lot, most for troubleshooting but it will filter the fuel too.

    Chrysler 75hp, need direction.

I know the preamp is pretty expensive, about 170 dollars. There is one other way to check the preamp BUT it is not 100% true that the preamp is good if it checks out good. Use a credit card or similar to cover and uncover the optic eye in the preamp. The plugs should spark each time you...

1990 Force 120HP #2 Cyl zero compression and upon opening piston shows damage

Yes as The Force power and racerone says, what kind of batteries do you have and what are the conditions of them. Generally the stator start to charge at about 1100-1200 rpm and the voltage you see at the gauges depends on how much the batteries are charged. If they are a bit discharged the...

    Chrysler 75hp, need direction.

Open up the distributor and check. As you have a 1978 year engine it suppose to have the electronic dist with a preamp instead of points. The preamp is a photo electric diod and there is a disc with windows that trigger the preamp to give signal to the CD box to discharge the capacitors in the box.

You says only the top plug spark at TDC and that is right if you mean TDC is when top plug is at TDC. Each plug should spark when each piston is at it´s TDC. Sparking/poping inside the distributor is normal. There will be a little spark inside it when the rotor is pointing at one HT wire...

85hp Force lower unit disassembly? Stuck driveshaft...

As The Force power says, penetrate with penetrating oil heat up the gear housing with a torch or acetylen/oxygen welder torch. Use a drifter and a hammer try to unscrew it. I have made a tool similar to the factory tool from a piece of steel tube then I have welded heels/tooth at the outside rim...

Should I buy a timing light?

A timing light is a very good tool to have in the tool box for service and troubleshooting but just to set the idle speed, no do not buy one for that reason. Buy a cheap tiny tach or a analog tach gauge for the dashboard. If you buy a timing light buy one with a pick up sender and not one that...

Big water leak inside cowl, any tips for this coming repair?

Try to check where the leakage is located. If not have to change the gasket between the motor leg (mid le g) and the power head do not do it. As I said before and it is from my own experience the spacer plate has two shock mounts. The studs are vulcanized in the rubber and when you try to...

How to set up an induction tachometer

If you mean idle screw by the one at the timing tower which rest at the block you do not need to reset or check the timing after you touched it.. If you change the trigger ring and you have to fiddle with the rod that moves the timing plate and is connected to the timing tower, then you have to...

    50 hp high speed misfire

As topgun3690 says no distributor with vacuum advancing at these OBs. The older 3 and 4 cylinder engines had distributor but the time advancing was made by turning the plate in the distributer where the points is mounted to. Your engine advance the timing by turning the trigger ring to make the...

Big water leak inside cowl, any tips for this coming repair?

Maybe you have bad shock absorbers but I think your engine is shaking because of running with misfires. If you look at Crowley Marine diagrams "spacer plate" and you have shock mounts #6 (2 of them). When trying to loose the nut you maybe twist the rubber as the threaded studs are vulcanized in...

Big water leak inside cowl, any tips for this coming repair?

Remove all that are screw to the midleg. No need to remove flywheel, maybe the carb so you will reach some screws. Do not remove the spacer plate #1 from the midleg. There are some shock absorbers (rubber) and they might go bad if you start to remove them. Check the diagrams at Crowley Marine...

    Why does everybody hate Force?

Well guy48065 that is the one that is pricey, agree with you of that one. It is because it is only available from Mercury. But most of the impellers to Force are from 15 dollars up to about 45 dollars.

1984 force 125 Leaking tilt and trim?

Yes, I know about those plastic plugs. If the seal at the lower cover is bad pull those plastic plugs to be sure the water will drain. I do not think water in the lower hurt at all at low RPMs. The water will not reach the power head and the carb intake, the water will drain when pushing the...

1984 force 125 Leaking tilt and trim?

There is a rubber seal at the lower cover that seals around the mid leg. Maybe it leaks from outside there. All Chrysler/Force from 70Hp (not the late Force one carb 70Hp) and up to 150Hp has this design. Water inside would not hurt I think. It will drain after avail, water inside the lower...
