    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

Do you have to remove all the ribs? When I did mine I just pulled the ribs with holes under them for welding. Not sure I would remove more than a few at a time. I don't see any big advantage by doing that.

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

Time to pull the knee brace and see what you have to work with. Possibly sandwich some plates larger than the corrosion. Coated with 5200 to keep water from being trapped between.

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

The only new steering kit I have been disappointed with was a "Xtreme NFB steering kit" . The kit has too many turns lock to lock. Docking can be annoying. On a positive note the kit has no slack in the cable as advertised.

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

If the steering unit with the pin retaining the cable is a no feed back I would use it. I used a old cable in a nfb box with an adapter I made on the lathe. Not sure if it is something commercially available.

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

I have been joining multiple wires and sealing with this for years under vehicles and on boats. In NS we see lots of corrosion and this stuff works. When you shrink it the glue/adhesive fills any gaps. I only use regular shrink tubing in dry locations. I buy it from automotive parts...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Heat shrink with the adhesive/glue liner should be fine with multiple wire connections. Maybe I'm not understanding

    Windshield booster?

My window was too low so I made a new one. Bonus that it's strong enough for mini me to swing from if the fishing is slow.

Speaking of building things here's my new excavator thumb. Sorry it's not aluminum 🤣

    Starcraft Holiday 18 make over

It's going to have to wait for a while because my budget troll approved a used mini excavator and it's been hogging my attention. I think a hard top would be a nice mod and maybe a bracket for the outboard. I often get inspiration from new boats that I like but can't afford at boat shows and...

    Starcraft Holiday 18 make over

Your boat might be older then my 1968. It has a flat dash instead of two consoles. Even has the purple stern light 👍

Will the wood deck still sit on the rib ends? The foam looks high.

'74 Holiday 18 Restore Mod.... Convert to open bow.

"Wala! The former bench seats of the Smoker Craft are now my vertical rib end bracing" Just curious about the thickness of your bracing material.

Your old cable has extra pieces on the end to be removed. Then make sure the cable is long enough to thread in the tilt tube. If that all works out you need a rod to connect the cable to the hole in front of the motor.

Steering through the tilt tube is my preference. Your style would be unsafe if the transom bracket came loose at high speed. Lag bolts may not stay tight. Is this outboard missing a tilt tube or is the cable too short? Curious why this style was used.

Wow that bow cap looks like it was a backstop for the gun range.

'74 Holiday 18 Restore Mod.... Convert to open bow.

I think my reinforcement will stop further cracking and has been working okay. It's got around 2000 miles on the gps since I put it together and I don't always have the gps on. The other repairs look good for strength but my design adds no extra holes under the water line. Also don't have to...

'74 Holiday 18 Restore Mod.... Convert to open bow.

I zoomed in on the picture I posted earlier. The black dots are solid rivets with black 3m5200 applied during setting. Two 3/16" all aluminum blind rivets in each rib. I can draw a picture if necessary as long as I can find my crayons 🤣 Slow and careful with the drill half way through the...

    1987 Starcraft islander 190v?

Most aluminum we use is an alloy. Most angle is 6061 and often used in boats.
