    Time to reassemble

Used a weed eater line for a guide to install the cable but I think the old cable routing may have been wrong, it came up and over the starboard engine mount and did not go in front of the exhaust but directly behind the steering gear and then to the shift plate. So I re-routed it under the...

    Time to reassemble

I'd be happy to even if you don't need to fix it. The bass have been good on the river this year! I still have a kayak if my shade tree repairs go south. Thanks for helping!

    Time to reassemble

I installed the gimbal housing today and again the water hose was a struggle but I think it's good. The main bellows was not too bad and did not use any glue at the gimbal housing end so if it leaks Rick is gonna fix it..LOL. I used an empty 1qt paint can to set the aluminum ring. It fits...

Engine won’t rev past 2500 rpm and vibrates

Guess i should add, only one at at a time, if idle changes, its good, plug it back and go to the next. If you pull one and no change you've found a problem.

    Time to reassemble

I decided to blow off new senders. Haven't had this boat long enough to know and I don't really care. Put a thick coat of silicone on the bare wires and if they work great. When I took the drive off I couldn't lower it completely, will that cause any problem when I put it back?

    Time to reassemble

Thanks to both for the info. I will get some #3. I don't wrench enough to keep the stuff around, it always goes bad by the time I need it again. The last project I had was rebuilding an antique clock movement and all I needed for that was some good oil and a lot of patience. LOL I've come to...

    Time to reassemble

LOL! Well now that we have that sorted out, what's a good substitute for merc's perfect seal for the threads on the shift cable. seems like teflon tape would work on that, and I have plenty of it laying around.

    Time to reassemble

Dis -assembly went easy, I just cut every thing made of rubber and thru it away. one of the hinge pins on the ring was hand tight and the other not much better so that was a surprise. anyway I got my new parts and just need to do a bit of cleaning and I am ready to put things back.. Got a...

    Engine coupler woes

Thankfully a false alarm, I have a hunting friend who loaned me his bore scope and I have plenty of splines and they all have flat tops. The gimbal bearing was so trashed that paranoia set in. I have some high pressure moly graph grease which I use on my lift gear which seems like a good choice...

    Engine coupler woes

Thanks for the photo, I didn't know the splines didn't run the entire length, It gives me hope that it still may have splines in it. Like I said in my previous post once I got the engine running I was able to get the boat to the ramp but I didn't push it...

    Engine coupler woes

I was afraid that would be the case. 20 years ago I swapped out the motor in my 79 chris craft and you were there in spirit... back then I had a place to work and I rented a cherry picker to pull the engine. but just not sure I am up to that these days. I need to study it a bit more. I actually...

    Engine coupler woes

I removed the gimbal housing today and got a bit deeper, I can't find any splines on the coupler. This boat is becoming more and more discouraging. I suspect I know the answer but just thought I would ask. Can a coupler be swapped while the engine is in the boat? I don't have the equipment or...

just a PS nextel, If I have helped you I'm happy but please understand that I am experimenting, my project is ongoing. I have no idea of how what I'm doing will hold up. I'm in the process of getting the rubber parts in the transom assembly replaced along with the bearing and I have only done...

    fuel pump frustration

yep, my pump bracket is mounted to the bracket on the manifold that the filter was originally mounted to, I had to drill a couple of extra holes in the pump bracket which I mounted up side down for ease. then I mounted the filter to the bulkhead just above the gas tank. Tried to keep things as...

Varnishing an oak swim platform - need advice please

No expert but I have varnished a lot of trim on my sailboat back when I was a masochist and you need several more coats with a light sanding in-between each. What you've done looks good, it just needs more.. like alldodge said, red oak will keep you busy.
