    85hp force tilt unit

Early 80's to the early 90's T@T will work. Some parts will need to be removed. Get parts diagrams from a 1988+- with T@T and a diagram without the T@T Just make sure that the wear plate is installed or the short ram will chew up the soft aluminum.

1994 Force 120HP tilt and trim questions.

Yes the motor is probably bad. I bought a used 225 Mercury and the T@T sounded HORRRRRIBLE. Turns out it had a hole in the side and salt water was getting into the motor. Surprised it worked at all.

90 hp Ignition Question: Thunderbolt VS Prestolite

I can see wanting to do the change but the cost would stop me as soon as I tried to get a new flywheel.$650 + I had the Prestolite system on 5 different forces and the only problems was a sheared flywheel key and a trigger wire that broke under the shrink wrap.

Does this timing advance rod (1985 50HP) look factory? Should it be bent like this?

Your pic, at top is a black plastic connector. That's where timing is adjusted.

    Motor dies then won't start

Test the overheat alarm? Possible getting hot? After starting, isolate the primer from the carb, pinch off the hose from primer to carb bowl, too much fuel can flood out the carbs??

What block did you use? the 87 is a different bore than the 95 What carbs did you use? from the 87 or 95?? The 4 different carbs 2 top 2 bottom all used different jets?? To test: Get the motor running, run it at wide open for 5 minutes. Then reach over and turn the key off. Don't throttle back...

Is this article true? I have had pretty good luck with Force motors.

Rubbish. I have owned 4 85s 2 125s and 1 120 The mechanical end was very dependable. The oil used as a mix for the fuel was the DEATH of many 2 stroke motors. The ash(?) was a huge problem causing the rings to carbon and seize. Then they got smart and introduced TCW-3 and those problems...

    1987 Force 125 shudder/bucking at fast idle/mid RPM

Supposed to be no gap BUT!! .008- .010 is acceptable. Their function is to stop the air from back feeding through the front of the carb. A tiny bit of opening is ok. The reeds aren't the problem. Bucking, kicking and coughing is more than likely the results of the motor sucking air somewhere...

    Throttle/Shift Cables

Yes they will work. Just make sure the length is ok. You can make a longer cable work but one thats just a little too short= NO Look around for cheaper cables. I managed to find 4 22ft. cables for under $100. That was ebay. NEVER buy used.

0.25 Volts AC from stator. But ohms out ok. What to check?

You using a DVA or peak reading volt meter? NO, then you won't get the right readings. A stator can test good but still be bad.

    1991 Force 150 hp

From 1992/3 they used the same gear ratio on all the bigger motors 90/120/150

    Best water separator

The best is usually the most expensive. I'd buy one with the see through base. It has a drain to get water out.

1980 15hp Sea King by Chrysler Carb float needle and seat

That rubber seal might be the same one used in the T@T valves??? You looking for a replacement or just commenting?

    1987 Force 125 shudder/bucking at fast idle/mid RPM

The older 87 doesn't have recirc hoses like the newer blocks have. The bottom of the block/front has a hose barb that goes to the plenum, it can clog and cause problems.
