    Too much boat?

Weird: I've been seeing several boats similar to that one trailering North through the Nashville area. I know they're pricey ... very nice lookin' but WAY outta' my league.

    Recommendations for cleaning bilge?

I was suggested once to use Dawn in the bilge like AllDodge said, and add a little water to encourage "sloshing." Then, pull the boat on the trailer for a couple miles :) I've actually tried it coming back from the ramp a couple times and it seemed to work well.

    Backing up

I've heard that tilting the motor up on those (like way up) helps. It has to do with how the hull interacts with water at the stern (if I followed the dude who I talked to correctly). But - I've never run a boat like that myself, so take that into account. 🙃

Nice. That's supposed to be an excellent gun. I've got several Rugers - love 'em. Congrats.

    Boat wakes

Outboards are gaining popularity again, and if you're buying new are pretty easy to get into. I've mostly had outboards, but my last two boats have been I/O's and I'm happy with both. I'm not sure that I see a huge difference between maintenance and even potential re-powers. Tubing is about the...

    pressure in upper gear case

On the lake: just double check and make sure you have water flowing: most likely, you're fine BUT the hose can push water up the system if the pump isn't working. If you still get water in the upper gear case at that point, there are still plenty of things to check. I would start back at the...

    pressure in upper gear case

When you tested it for water, are you actually putting the boat in the water to see if the impeller is circulating? On the hose, the pressure from the hose should push water through the system - if you're on a hose and not getting water, you're blocked somehow. If you're trying to stick the...

    1980 3.0L strange overheat issue

You've got an OMC Stringer stern drive. It is basically an antique: OMC stopped making that kind of drive in 1987 and it's rather different than the Mercruisers of it's day or any stern drive of today. Swivel greases from a point behind a weird lookin' red plug on the front of the stern drive...

    Boat Ramp Etiquette

I'll add my 2¢, and also work on it from the perspective of the ramp I use most which can get pretty busy. I'll also say that in general, I try to think in terms that we're all boatin' on the weekend: it's supposed to be fun and enjoyable. Where we are, there are two things in play: the ramp...

    1980 3.0L strange overheat issue

Have you greased your swivel on the outdrive? Another long shot - and Kenny is the brain on the old OMCs - but, sometimes you can have exhaust gasses in that housing encourage overheating. Greasing the swivel, tends to fend that effect off.

    Towboggan watermat nosediving

I think it sounds like your tow point is too low (I'm guessing you're using the transom eyes). Do you have a booster ball? There are other names for them, but it's a float that attaches to your tow line and keeps it up over the water level. You can give that a whirl perhaps.

    pressure in upper gear case

I agree: the impeller is my first suspect. I would get a new kit and replace it. Drain the drive, check the o-ring on the upper dipstick, refill and see what you get. If you have the tools and know how, pressure testing the upper gear case would be good too. (I had to have it done for mine)
