    1st time boat owner.

Cool lookin' boat. That's not a HIN on your boat, it's a manufacturer's serial number; and likely doesn't mean too much. Do a little lookin' in HERE and see if you can figure it out. Welcome aboard.

Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

Nashville Shores last night. Not as big a show, but right over the water and easy to get to and from at night. I have never boated into watch the Nashville show on the Cumberland. Always thought it would be cool ... but gettin' back out would be crazy I think.

Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

Fireworks last night in Nashville. Anchored up with a couple hundred of our best friends, and had a nice night with bright colors ... and a little Lee Greenwood from somewhere on the shoreline. Happy 4th y'all.

    year and model

Depends more on what's going on on the inside. The fiberglass part of that looks pretty simple (but there are others that know LOTS more about it than I do). But there should be structure behind that which may need attention too. Dunno' how hard it is to access it in that boat. From photos...

    year and model

That depends on your state. In Tennessee, a valid bill of sale would suffice, but the bill of sale would have to identify the boat by year, make and HIN. I'm not sure what Utah requires. Where I grew up, you would have to have a title properly executed for the secretary of state (again, which...

    year and model

Make sure he's got at least enough paperwork for you to transfer the ownership and register the boat. A surprising amount of people get caught in that kind of trap.

    year and model

Can't tell you the exact year: but Winner Marlin fits. Take a look HERE. His paperwork should have the year on it, and anything prior to 1970 is reasonable. Looks like a late 60s model. Welcome aboard.

OMC stringer thump sound from the rear.

Some (admitted) long shots: how bad/good are your ball gears? I'm wondering if you've got a little extra play on them and when you change RPMs quick, you feel a "hit" from them re-engaging. Might also take a look at the drive shaft between the upper and lower gear case. If it's starting to...

OMC stringer thump sound from the rear.

Does the "thump" happen exclusively when you slow way down, particularly when coming off plane?

OMC stringer thump sound from the rear.

Drive should be all the way down anyway, right? You don't trim the Stringer from the tilt.

    1969 StarCraft Ss175v help?

I personally wouldn't change to electronic ignition. I've heard too many troubles with those conversions, and honestly the boat (and cars) I've worked fine on points. Servicing, cleaning, rebuilding the carb usually never hurts.

    Arrowglass ? Boat

Welcome Aboard. That boat is most likely older than a 1972, which is when HINs would start being required. There might have been a serial number on the manufacturers plaque; but it may not have had one either. You may have to have one assigned when you register it.

    OMC 3.0L missfire/ fuel starvation!?

Might want to check fuel flow and filters before you tear it all apart.

    1969 StarCraft Ss175v help?

On the tilt: check your battery charge. If it's full, then it's possible you need to clean / rebuild the tilt motor. Lube for the clutch pack is a possible problem, but I would guess even after draining it and filling it (lower port side of the stern drive) that won't make a huge difference.

    OMC 3.0L missfire/ fuel starvation!?

Have you looked at the carburetor? I'd work backwards from the plugs at this point, and make sure I'm getting the spark I'm supposed to. But I think I'd also do some basic checks on the carb, and make sure it's working correctly.

I/O 18 ft. Does it sit too low in the stern?

Possibly. But, that's not the way to do it. You're risking damage to your boat, you're not accounting for places in the hull way forward and you're not getting enough pressure on whatever is leaking. With the boat floating, and the engine off, you can actually see the water come in to the...

I/O 18 ft. Does it sit too low in the stern?

Yeah: I think I'd float it and look in the bilge to see the water coming in.

I/O 18 ft. Does it sit too low in the stern?

As far as I'm concerned, most Stringers on muffs look like a porcupine of water. Did you confirm you were getting flow up by the engine? (or at least it stayed cool?)
