Help identify this Volvo Penta drive:

Ive got no complaints with my Cobra drive. Mine is the late one same as the Volvo... seems they learned most of the lessons from Mercruiser, and made them "easier" to work on (no pump in the lower unit, bellows easier to change, shifter not a disaster to adjust). Cone clutches also, so they are...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

if you have a cheap chinesium bearing in there, that could well be the cause of the issue... the bellows and bearings in those kits are not the best... I use them when resurrecting a boat, as they will keep water out until the hull and driveline is proven, but beyond that, if you get a year or...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

I wouldnt say its completely off the wall, and at least its easy to check. Pulling the drive is quick and painless, and will tell you in 20 minutes if you have an easy fix, of if something inside the drive went, or is going belly up.

    4.3GL VP Fuel Pump Issues

sounds like your fuel system is very similar if not the same to my 1994 Cobra. (which became the SX drive shortly after). Here is a screenshot of the manual with the principles of operation, the wiring diagram and the troubleshooting section. Hope these help. Your wire colors sound the same as...

    Time to replace tires?

I try and do the same. Used to be able to use the tire machine at work... then the boss went flipshit about it not being fair to the others that dont know how to use it (Im a school bus driver and have a background in mechanics.... the lead mech knows this, and allowed me to use the equipment...

    Setting engine valves

old school Chevy engines had a stud, rounded fulcrum washer and locknut. You set the preload on the lifter by cranking down on the locknut, but it never bottomed out, it balanced between the valve spring tension and the lifter preload. if a lifter was a bit noisy, you had a measure of adjustment...

    Setting engine valves

the 4.3 in my 95 has a roller cam, but does NOT have adjustable rockers.... run them down and forget them.... and despite the valve covers, this one is pre-Vortec.

    Bunk slides

Ill stick with carpet and wood... I can see "stuff" getting embedded in the surface of a hard plastic bunk and scratching the hell out of the bottom of the ski or boat. Carpet at least has SOME measure of give to absorb such things. Not all of us boat in the cleanest of waters.....

    Time to replace tires?

I used up all my curse words yesterday

plenty of vehicles out there that are a PITA to change the plugs in.... Old 2nd gen Exploder I had, the #3 plug was right hard against the heater box, and no good way to get the bugger out... AFAIK it was still the OEM plug in there when it went to the junkyard... I wasnt gonna fight it...

    question on power steering ram

fine idea, but most hardware stores you cant find a screw or bolt of a correct size, let alone something as "complicated" as an o-ring.... our Ace Hardware is pretty much useless in that respect.... and I would rather not have the boat down for as long as it would take to order from...

Modifying propeller hub for new rubber hub

not to sound like a ****, but when you test it, take a spare prop... Nothing like going like hell, then all of a sudden the rpm goes way up, and you drop off plane because the hub started slipping......BTDT with a stock prop, and its no fun trying to idle back to the dock, or looking for someone...

    Check your Prop Folks!!

I would put that up to age more than anything else. Given that part is "supposed" to fail first to save the lower unit, it had a good life, and is due for replacement

    question on power steering ram

ok. Looks like my power steering ram may be leaking a bit. Not a big deal (yet) but I want to get my ducks in a row. Looks like the ram is NLA, as is the Volvo equivalent. (this is an SX in Drag Cobra) Are the two interchangeable? if so, the Volvo piece is a bit cheaper, and I can get rebuild...

    1987 3.0L water in oil

if your manifold or riser cracks, water will get into the oil through the valves... I had a bad riser on my 2.5, and sure enough, it backed up into the valves through manifold. Thankfully it did no damage, as I caught it early (during rebuild, so on the hose). keep in mind there is water still...

    The End

started on mine this morning... pumped about 5 gallons of gas out of each, the Galaxy had its drain plugs pulled for the winter, the interior will get vacuumed out tomorrow, and the cover will go on for the winter... the Four Winns will likely get its plugs pulled tomorrow, and the interior and...

    I hit a rock

a search for props for his application shows two different propshafts.... 13 and 15 spline... the 2.3 used the 13 spline which has NO props available with anywhere near the pitch that would be needed..... his 4.3 is the 15 spline which is a bit more universal, and more available with exotic...

    I hit a rock

Ok, you are gonna run into a BIG problem with that... up until 1990 the 2.3 used a 13 spline propshaft, which you CANNOT get with enough pitch to work with the engine and drive ratio.... your 1992 drive uses a 15 spline propshaft..... you are gonna have to find a different donor drive... as...
