Mercury Carbureted vs Fuel injection timeline

I know they still pollute, but not like the old ones which would just dump fuel at idle Like I said, even my Big twin 40 isn't terrible for a 55 year old motor.. 4 stroke for people concerned about it

Mercury Carbureted vs Fuel injection timeline

That 20-30% would be in the late 50's to early 60's where you could see an oil slick when you started it cold on some motors. Many bypassed raw gas to the exhaust on startup, but some were worse than others. I have a 1966 Johnson Super Seahorse 40hp ( Big Twin ) which isn't that bad. A...

    Wood cost

My best friend was going to get charged $15 each for 8' 2x4's to build her shed, But she is lucky to know several people with saw mills and got rough cut 2x4's for normal prices. Still siding, decking and roofing, not being able to be milled, it cost well over what it should have.

Big twin 40hp shear pin material?

The holes in the prop are elongated, but it does not rock. It's not in bad shape but is on my list of things to fix as I don't think it's the right pitch. I have the OEM manual for the motor which has a pitch chart and I'll order one that matches best. Since there are only 3-4 choices I think

Big twin 40hp shear pin material?

Interesting, so a little under 1/2 strength of the correct rod.. At least I know it'll work in a pinch. I only sheared it when I shifted it with the idle bumped up a little... Actually it made me panic as it went 'ting' and then I thought I did the gear case in. But then checked the pin and it...

    Wood cost

Prices crashed recently, but a month or so ago, I needed 3/8" CDX plywood and wound up getting 3/8" BCX for $65 per sheet. I think it would normally be in the $35 range

Big twin 40hp shear pin material?

Well, the brass rod I bought came in, and I held it up to the original, and it's identical.. So that must have been a fisherman fix, and I converted the boat back from a purpose built fishing boat to a faimly watercraft as it was originally... A lot of ' keep it going ' was done to the boat.

9.8 hp vs 9.9 hp outboard engines

It's not marketing in this case. In the case of Tohatsu, The 9.9 is 333cc and the 9.8 is 209cc. They are different motors. 9.9 and 9.8 both exist because of 10hp limited lakes, but between those motors, they are built for different purposes

9.8 hp vs 9.9 hp outboard engines

Tohatsu I think started that and other manufactures followed. The 9.8hp are tuned up 8hp variants, and the 9.9hp are de tuned 15hp variants. They are sold at different price points, and weigh differently

Big twin 40hp shear pin material?

Why does the pin look like bronze? It appears to be 78,000 PSI shear strength if it is bronze? Or could it just be discolored?

So the aluminum will be out. I knew it was softer but got it because Lowes had it.

Big twin 40hp shear pin material?

If I shear it, I'm going to have an electric or a gas motor on the bracket beside it to bring it back to the dock, where I could either pull it, fix and re launch or do it at the dock No Crocs, Gators or any other predators where I boat, so I could go swimming to do it, but I'd drop the prop...
